The Grounds Maintenance Foreman is the working supervisor responsible to the Assistant Chief, Engineering Service. This position is responsible for coordinating Grounds operations, and station fleet management on the hospital's campus on a day shift tour Monday through Friday. They are responsible to work with M&O technical section to perform preventative maintenance functions, and for checking work assignments and keeping abreast of the work in progress.

Duties

Duties of the Ground Maintenance Foreman include, but not limited to: Incumbent is responsible for supervision of all aspects of grounds operations at the Medical Center. This includes mowing operations that utilize industrial mowers, weed eaters, various hand tools, cleaning of landscape, emptying exterior trash cans, flower bed maintenance, back hoe operations, all external moves and large internal moves (as directed) of furniture and/or equipment, snow operations. The incumbent manages and supervises bus operations for Emergency Management, which includes both a 25 and a 15-passenger mobile clinic. Incumbent is responsible for all grounds equipment including cleaning operation, maintenance and service calls as required. Incumbent is primarily responsible for maintaining cleanliness and condition of all parking areas including the main floors of the parking garage. This includes trash pickup (except parking garage elevator lobbies and stairwells), maintaining potholes or other surface deficiencies on roadways, maintaining condition and location of car-stops, installing or removing signage (as directed), and supervision of the operation of an industrial street sweeper to help maintain these areas. Incumbent is also responsible to create and maintain a seasonal Snow Detail list. This list of personnel from a variety of Engineering disciplines is recruited for the sole purpose of clearing snow, ice, etc. from Medical Center roads, grounds, and sidewalks. During Snow Detail call out, the Grounds Maintenance Foreman assumes the role of supervisor for all people on the detail work. Incumbent coordinates and is usually involved with the cleaning of exterior surfaces of 29 separate buildings at this Medical Center. This includes cleaning exterior walls, gutters and downspout systems, roof drains, and other areas as defined by Engineering management. Incumbent is also responsible for completing a bi-annual Fence Survey. The grounds area of the Medical Center where fence protection is installed will be walked two times per year. Any deficiencies shall be noted and discussed with the Assistant Chief Engineer for repair or replacement options. Incumbent is responsible for the oversight and partial maintenance operations of the facility's above ground fuel storage tanks (AGT) and underground fuel storage (UST) tanks. Responsibility consists of cleaning debris on a monthly basis, and to safely remove and contain water and fuel oil from UST spill buckets. The incumbent shall also maintain inventory for 300-gallon gasoline and #2 diesel fuel AGT. Incumbent will be, at times, responsible to operate passenger vehicles, trucks (gross weight 22,000 pounds), power equipment, snow removal equipment (gross vehicle weight 17,000 pounds), mobile air compressor and all other related equipment of the unit. In the operations of the above, incumbent may transport patients, both ambulatory and wheelchair, operate passenger busses on scheduled or special runs from one location to another (gross weight 36,000 pounds). Incumbent shall have proper state licenses to operate equipment above on public roads. The incumbent is standing, kneeling, walking, bending, climbing and lifting up to 60 pounds on a regular and/or continuous basis. Duties require considerable dexterity, hand, foot, eye coordination and concentration.
