The primary purpose of this position is to execute district court security protocols; perform detention assignments; detainee transport duties; provide protective services to judicial officers and other government officials, to include transportation of such officials and protection of residences; respond to civil disturbances/active threats in and around federal buildings and engage in service of process duties. Duty location: Washington, DC.

Duties

It is your responsibility to read the entire announcement carefully before applying and to follow all instructions outlined. Duties of the position include, but are not limited to, the following: Work court security assignments for arraignments, hearings, and criminal and civil trials. Provide personal protection inside the courtroom or federal buildings for government officials, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, and other members of the judicial process. Oversee detention operations to ensure order and discipline, security, and safeguarding of detainees. Search, restrain, provide sustenance, and administer basic medical interventions to inmates. Move inmates to and from holding cells to courtrooms and working with external detention or corrections entities, coordinate transportation of inmates to and from the courthouse, airports or other facilities. Provide physical transport of inmates, safely and securely, to and from detention facilities, airlift sites, and medical buildings. Participate in protective service details of court and government officials, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, etc. as an operator of detail vehicles or in the static security of a residence or building containing a protected person. Research and verify the location of a recipient of legal process and work in conjunction with Deputy U.S. Marshals to safely execute the service of process. Special Retirement Provisions for Law Enforcement/Maximum Entry Age: The Federal Enforcement Officer is a Primary/Rigorous position covered by the retirement provisions of 5 U.S.C. 8336{c) and 5 U.S.C. 8412{d). Persons making their first entry into a law enforcement position under these authorities must be between the ages of 21 and 36 years of age. The date immediately preceding an individual's 37th birthday is the maximum entry age for original appointment to a position as a law enforcement officer or firefighter position as defined in title 5 U.S.C. 8331(20)(21) or in 5 U.S.C. 8401(14)(17). This age restriction does not apply to those who have prior Federal service in a covered primary law enforcement or firefighter position, or to qualified Veterans' preference eligible regardless of whether they meet the maximum age requirements identified at 5 U.S.C. 3307, unless the hiring agency has determined age is essential to the duties of the job. All applications will be screened for date of birth at the time of initial application. This position requires you to carry a firearm and is subject to the Lautenberg Amendment, 18 U.S.C. Section 922(g)(9). Any person convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence cannot lawfully possess any firearm or ammunition. A "misdemeanor crime of domestic violence" is generally defined under the statute as any offense involving the use or attempted use of physical force, or the threatened use of a deadly weapon, committed by the victim's current or former domestic partner, parent, or guardian. The term 'convicted' as defined in the statute, excludes any person whose conviction has been expunged, set aside, or pardoned, or any person whose civil rights have been restored unless the pardon, expungement or restoration of civil rights expressly prohibits the possession of firearms or ammunition. GL-09: To qualify at this grade level, you must meet ONE of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have 1 year of experience which is equivalent to at least the Federal GS-07 level, performing the following duties: Conducting detention facility operations and/or holding facility operations to ensure order and discipline, security, and safeguarding of detainees inside a court or building in accordance with established rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures; and Providing protective security operations inside the courtroom or building for government officials, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, etc. while ensuring law enforcement compliance; and Assisting with advance security countermeasures and responses; and Preparing to transport detainees by completing requirements. (Must be reflected in resume) OR Education: You must have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) 2 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate study or law school education related to law enforcement. Related fields include: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Science, Intelligence Studies, or Law. This list is not all inclusive. OR You must have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all requirements for a Master's degree (or equivalent graduate degrees such as LL.B. or J.D.) with major study in a field related to law enforcement. Related fields include: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Science, Intelligence Studies, or Law. This list is not all inclusive. OR Combination of Experience and Education: You may combine post baccalaureate education and experience to meet the qualification requirements. To determine if the combination of your experience and education meet the qualifications, complete the following steps: Determine your total qualifying experience as a percentage of the experience required. Determine your education as a percentage of the education required. Add the two percentages. The total percentage must equal at least 100 percent. GS-11: To qualify at this grade level, you must meet ONE of the following: Specialized Experience: You must have 1 year of experience which is equivalent to at least the Federal GS-09 level, performing the following duties: Responsible for detention operations and/or holding facility operations to ensure order and discipline, security, and safeguarding of detainees inside a court or building in accordance with established rules, regulations, directives, policies, and procedures; and Providing protective security operations inside the courtroom or building for government officials, attorneys, jurors, witnesses, etc. while ensuring law enforcement compliance; and Monitoring and adhering to security and safety compliance regulations and procedures for court security assignments; and Performing advance security countermeasures and responses; and Responsible for transporting detainees by completing requirements. (Must be reflected in resume) OR Education: You must have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) 3 full academic years of progressively higher-level graduate study or law school education related to law enforcement. Related fields include: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Science, Intelligence Studies, or Law. This list is not all inclusive. OR You must have completed (or expect to complete within 9 months) all requirements for a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree (or equivalent graduate degrees such as LL.M.) with major study in a field related to law enforcement. Related fields include: Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Forensic Science, Computer Forensics, Psychology, Sociology, Public Administration, Political Science, Intelligence Studies, or Law. This list is not all inclusive. OR Combination of Experience and Education: You may combine post baccalaureate education and experience to meet the qualification requirements.
