This position is located with Bonneville Power Administration, in TLM North Bend (TFEP), Eugene District (TFE), Transmission Field Services (TF), Transmission Services (T). A successful candidate in the Line Equipment Operator position will operate trucks and all other equipment used in transmission line maintenance, right-of-way and access road maintenance, danger tree removal, or force account construction jobs assigned to transmission line maintenance crews.

The screen-out element for this position is: Ability to do the work of a Line Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision to include to accomplish the works and trades in operating line maintenance truck equipped with hydraulically or mechanically operated attachments, aerial platforms, spray equipment, line stringing, or reeling attachments. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Working Conditions: The Line Equipment Operator A works outdoors in all kinds of weather conditions and may work for long periods of time in cold, wet, or icy weather, and high winds. The work involves prolonged driving and operation of heavy equipment and tools, long hours of standing, pulling, digging, and walking over rough terrain. The hazards include working at the base of structures and towers hoisting heavy loads with hand lines or winch lines where employee may be exposed to falling objects. Hazards also include working around energized equipment and equipment with moving or rotating parts, and exposure to dust, grease, oil, chemicals, and other debris. The work environment will occasionally include high noise levels and/or exposure to hazardous substances (i.e., solvents, PCB's, etc.) that could, if precautions are not followed, pose a health risk. Approved respiratory and safety equipment shall be worn when hazardous substances are being handled. Emergencies, critical system conditions, or outage limitations may require that work be done at night and/or under time restraints. System priorities may require extended periods of overtime including working weekends. When assigned to a live-line bare hand crew the LEO may be in continuous travel status. Physical Requirements: Climbs on and off vehicles and heavy equipment (average 10 to 12 feet) in all weather conditions. Good balance required on high, narrow, slippery surfaces as well as on uneven and steep terrain during varied weather conditions. Often stands for extended uninterrupted periods of time, on steep and uneven terrain or while flagging. Drives vehicles to and from work sites; operates heavy and specialized line equipment. Requires ability to extend the neck to look up for prolonged periods. Extensive vibration in cab while operating equipment. Lifts tools and equipment. Average 65 pounds. May occasionally lift in excess of 100 lbs., assistance generally available.
