Duties
As a Translator (Spanish) you will:
Deliver accurate translations of scientific and health communication materials including reports, factsheets, articles, communication campaign materials, and scripts for audio and visual products.
Ensure translations are accurate and represents the highest quality in terms of maintaining intent and/or meaning and comply with Spanish language norms and rules.
Manage linguistic, glossary, and technical research efforts for translation services of health communication products and projects.
Contribute to the efficient and effective management of translation resources and administrative processes. Activities include: Utilizing software to perform translation activities and certification of materials (e.g., translation software, term bases, specialized glossaries and dictionaries).
Manage projects and coordinate translation activities and assignments (English to Spanish) to provide CIOs with expedited translation services.

Basic Qualifications:
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- the appropriate foreign language from an English-speaking college or university, English from a college or university in the other country, or translating or interpreting where English and the foreign language were prerequisites. OR
Experience in translating, interpreting, or other work requiring the use of English and the other language; or a combination of work (that required English and the other language) AND training at the Defense Language Institute, Foreign Service Institute, or comparable training.
AND
Selective Placement Factor (SPF): Selective placement factors are special qualification requirements in addition to the minimum requirements, that are essential to successfully perform the duties of this job. Applicants must be proficient in translating English into Spanish (writing, speaking, and reading).
Testing Provision: The interview will be conducted in Spanish and English, and you will be required to translate biomedical science and health documents. If you are unable to demonstrate proficiency, you will not be qualified for this position.
AND
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-12 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level, which must include experience producing accurate translations with a wide range of both technical and non-technical vocabulary using correct grammar, syntax, and spelling; AND utilizing a translation software tool that includes the use of translation memories and Project Management.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
Copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
