This position is located within the Agricultural Research Service, Northeast Area, Beltsville Agricultural Research Center, Beltsville, Maryland.
In this position, you will perform maintenance, repair, installation, and servicing of electrical systems and equipment supporting agricultural research in the facilities and campus providing a first line of response for alarms of critical equipment and emergency calls for service at The Center that may require immediate repair.
Duties
Assists in conducting periodic inspections and services covering all types of electrically operated equipment and machinery, light and power circuits, components and accessories in accordance with factory furnished maintenance instructions.
Measures, cuts, threads, bends, assembles, and installs conduits to connect the various outlets, panels, and boxes.
Assists in determining properly balanced circuits, size, and routing of circuits, types of switches, relays, and other materials, and initiates requests for materials needed from stock supply.
Assists in installation or change-over of electrical systems and essential wiring, including the installation of all types and sizes of switches, multi-breaks, panels, and switchboards.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one-year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications will be determined under the Job Element Rating System X-118C, Qualifications Standard Handbook. While a specific length of time and experience is not required for most Wage Grade positions, you must show through experience and training that you possess the best qualified level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of this position. Qualification requirements emphasize the quality of experience, not necessarily the length. Working Conditions
Subject to danger of shock, cuts, burns, bruises, falls, exposure to dirt, fumes, and temperature changes. May make installations outside in bad weather and in work areas that are noisy or dirty.
Physical Effort
Works from ladders, scaffolds, belts, and platforms which requires work in cramped, stretched, or awkward positions. Frequently lifts articles weighing up to 20 pounds and occasionally over that amount.
