About the Position: Serves as a direct primary health care provider in the capacity of a credentialed Physician Assistant (PA) providing primary medical services to patients ranging in age. The incumbent provides services to military, their family members and retirees at Army Health Clinic Moncrief, Fort Jackson, SC.
Working hours are approximately Monday - Friday, 0730-1630.

Duties
Independently perform direct health care to include clinical duties such as assessing, planning, evaluating, and modifying the plan of acute and chronically ill patients.
Collaborate with attending physician and other medical staff in interpreting and evaluating continuing changes in direct patient care.
Provide consultation, teaching, and coordination with patients and their family members regarding treatment and medical care.
Differentiate between normal and abnormal findings to recognize early stages of serious physical, emotional or mental problems.
Secure comprehensive health and medical history from the patient or family member, records findings and make clinical evaluation.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- You must undergo a specific initial background checks, investigation and periodic re-verification check of multiple agency records to obtain and maintain a suitable determination to occupy a position having regular contact with children.
- Applicants must be able to fulfill credentialing requirements and obtain and maintain appropriate/relevant clinical privileges.
- Current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
- Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination.
- Irregular tours of duty may be required to include weekends, nights, and/or holidays, depending on area of assignment.
- This position has mandatory seasonal influenza vaccination requirements and is subject to annual seasonal influenza vaccinations unless otherwise exempted for medical or religious reasons (documentation of exemption must be provided upon hire).
- This position requires the incumbent to complete mandatory tuberculosis testing.
- Immunization screening is required. Hepatitis B immunization is required for all positions with direct patient contact.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
- This position requires that you obtain and maintain an Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) certification.
- This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment drug screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Moderate to heavy lifting may be required.
- The position may require wearing and using personal protective equipment as required and provided by the employer.
- This position may be inclement weather. The incumbent may be expected to make every attempt to report for duty on time and/or remain on duty during inclement weather conditions.

Basic Requirements for Physician Assistant:
Education: Graduation from a physician assistant educational program, accredited by the Accreditation Review Committee on Education for the Physician Assistant (ARC-PA) or its predecessors, at a college, university, or educational institution that is accredited by an accrediting body or organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts)
Certification: Successful completion of the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA) examination; must maintain status as a certified physician assistant, including completion of all requirements for Continuing Medical Education (CME) and re-certification (Note: You must attach a copy of your certification)
Licensure: Applicants must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a Physician Assistant from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States (Note: You must attach a copy of your license)
Exemption: You are exempt from the license requirements above if you are a current federal employee occupying a position in the 0603 occupational series and have been continuously employed in this occupational series since September 27, 2017 or before. Note: You will be required to provide appropriate documentation to the respective Human Resources Office to validate your status.
In addition to meeting the basic requirements above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Experience: A minimum of one full year of work experience as a certified physician assistant which includes performing patient care procedures in a hospital or medical office setting; determining appropriate medical treatment for diagnoses; prescribing medications in accordance with treatment plan; performing health examinations for assigned patients; obtaining patient medical history for accurate records. This definition of experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12).
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
