These positions are located in Great Smoky Mountains National Park, in the Facilities Management Division. This is a term position (more than 1 year) with an initial appointment expecting to last at least 13 months but may be extended up to a total of four years. Term positions do not convey permanent status in the Federal service.

Duties

Major Duties: Operates one or more motor vehicles including platform trucks, van trucks, stake tucks, dump trucks, especially pumping equipment, and trash removal trucks which typically have an approximate gross vehicle weight or more than 26,000 pounds and up to 32,000 pounds. Vehicles are usually equipped with air brakes. Operates vehicles over rough terrain, in close quarters, and in heavy traffic on both long and short hauls. Performs operator maintenance on all vehicles operated (e.g., monitoring fluid levels, replacing air filters, and interior lights, checking tire pressure and hose connections, and washing the vehicle). May perform semi-skilled and unskilled maintenance, repair, and janitorial work in and on various unit buildings. Typical duties include installing faucet washers and gaskets, replacing faucets, other minor plumbing repairs, touch-up painting, minor carpentry repairs, and janitorial work in public and administrative buildings. Performs minor repairs and preventative maintenance of equipment. Does manuel labor tasks, such as digging, pulling, cleaning drainage dithces, lufting and emptying trash containers, cleaning restrooms, picking up litter, cleaning picnic grills, etc., work roads and trails in connection with raking and graveling.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT) Operation of motor vehicles Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. (related to mobile equipment operation) Ability to drive safely (motor vehicles) Ability to operate safely (non-motor vehicle) Reliability and dependability as a Motor Vehicle Operator Screen out: Must currently possess and be able to maintain a valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) or higher.
