You will serve as an Equipment Specialist (Corrosion) in the Naval Air Technical Data and Engineering Services Center (NATEC) in either Camp Pendleton, CA or Jacksonville, NC. This announcement uses the Certain Personnel of the DoD direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.

Duties

You will provide technical advice, support, and instruction to internal and external contacts on the acceptance, installation, inspection, operation, maintenance, and documentation of aviation systems. You will advise technicians on methods of inspection, identification, mitigation, repair, and research and analysis to resolve problems with corrosion on aircraft systems. You will propose changes, additions and recommendations for improvement of weapons systems, their support equipment and associated logistics issues. You will assist, train and demonstrate the best methods of prevention, inspection, treatment and documentation of corrosion.

  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to sign a mobility agreement to accept relocation to other geographic locations if required by the employer.

Qualifications

FOR GS-11: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Applying advanced knowledge of a wide range of airframe and airframe sub-system operations and maintenance concepts, principles, and practices; 2) Providing expertise and training on the inspection, identification and repair of corrosion, not limited to structures, control surfaces, engine controls, landing and arresting gear, fuel systems, fire extinguishing systems, hydraulic systems, and environmental control systems; 3) Analyzing and resolving complex corrosion problems on a variety of aircrafts, and related equipment and systems, for corrective actions; and 4) Serving as a technical expert/advisor for aviation systems, equipment, support equipment and any related logistics matters. FOR GS-09: Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Providing assistance on the detection, inspection, and maintenance of corrosion on aircrafts/weapon systems and related equipment; 2) Proposing recommendations for improvement of corrosion prevention, inspection techniques, and repair; and 3) Assisting others on methods of resolving corrosion prone areas, new inspection/detection/repair procedures, research and analysis, and resolving corrosion problems to improve material. In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify based on the following education:

FOR GS-11:
Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree
or
3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.M., if related

FOR GS-09:
Master's or equivalent graduate degree
or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree
or
LL.B. or J.D., if related.
