This position is in the Office of Research and Development, Center for Computational Toxicology and Exposure, Great Lakes Toxicology and Ecology Division, Program Operations Staff. About: The Office of Research and Development (ORD) This is an office-centered position*--you must physically report to the duty station stated in this announcement on a regular basis. *Work-from-home flexibilities may be authorized as described in the Benefits section.

Qualifications

In addition to the educational requirements, we are looking for at least one year of specialized experience related to this position as described below: To qualify for the GS-12 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time* experience equivalent to the GS-11 level defined as developing or implementing occupational health plans, policies, or standards, and/or performing or monitoring training; and implementing changes to an industrial hygiene program at a facility with scientific research and development laboratory operations. To qualify for the GS-13 level, you need to have at least one year of full-time* experience equivalent to the GS-12 level defined as participating in the development and implementation of an environmental compliance or occupational safety and health program for an organization or business; participating in the development and implementation of a laboratory or hazardous waste management program; and providing occupational health and safety or industrial hygiene advice and/or training to peers/supervisors in their organization. Your answers to the online assessment will be used to evaluate your competencies in the following areas: 1) Skill in applying occupational health and safety regulations, guidelines, practices, and requirements; 2) Knowledge of industrial hygiene health and safety plans; 3) Skill in program management; 4) Experience performing audits and inspections in a laboratory research environment; 5) Skill in oral communication sufficient to provide guidance; 6) Skill in identifying occupational health hazards.; 7) Knowledge of regulatory policies and procedures for related licenses; 8) Ability to provide leadership in a team setting. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Education

You need a degree or combination of education and experience as described below to qualify for this position.

Industrial Hygienist: You must have a bachelor's or higher degree from an accredited or pre-accredited college or university in industrial hygiene, occupational health sciences, occupational and environmental health, toxicology, safety sciences, or related sciences; or a branch of engineering, physical science, or life science that included 12 semester hours in chemistry, including organic chemistry, and 18 additional semester hours of courses in any combination of chemistry, physics, engineering, health physics, environmental health, biostatistics, biology, physiology, toxicology, epidemiology, or industrial hygiene; or certification from the American Board of Industrial Hygiene (ABIH). NOTE: Courses in the history or teaching of chemistry are not acceptable.
