The incumbent is responsible for the provision of pharmacy services including all drug distribution services and clinical pharmacy services. The pharmacist advises and provides technical expertise/leadership in the areas of medication selection, procurement, storage, ordering, preparing, dispensing, billing, delivery, administration and monitoring. This position serves under the Chief Pharmacist at the Fort Yuma Health Care Clinic, Winterhaven, CA.
Duties
Select, procure, prepare, and dispense medication as prescribed.
Counsel patients on use, storage, cautions and side effects of medications dispensed.
Review patient medical record for safety, appropriateness, and effectiveness of drug therapy.
Properly store and protect drugs and chemicals
Coordinate care with outside agencies; transferring prescriptions to outside pharmacies; process incoming prescription; and collaborate with professionals.

Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Education: A doctoral degree in Pharmacy that is recognized by the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: Applicants must be licensed to practice pharmacy in a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Medical Requirements: Applicants must be able to distinguish basic colors.
Basic Requirement for the GS-11 Grade Level: 3 years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D., Pharm.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-12: Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: Collaborate with physicians to discuss potential incompatibility issues with patient prescriptions; maintain accurate inventory of medications; design drug treatment plans; monitor and assure proper drug therapy; provide clinical teaching activities; advise for potential effects of new drugs, by investigating and evaluating the status of drugs which do not yet have approval for general use; provide direct patient care in pharmacy based clinics; provide formal and informal education and in-services to medical staff, pharmacy, and nursing staff; provide education to patients and their families about medications, common disease states and information on health promotion; Participates in ongoing quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
