This position is located with the Environmental Services Branch at the Gallup Indian Medical Center in Gallup, NM. The primary purpose of this position is to plan, organize, conduct, and manage an effective hospital housekeeping program to meet goals and objectives. The program consists of environmental services (housekeeping), and linen & laundry services.
Duties
Plans, organizes, controls, conducts, maintains, and manages an effective hospital housekeeping program of a laundry & linen, interior decor and aesthetics style & visual imagery in a safe, functional, clean, and sanitized environment for patients, staff and other individuals in the hospital and/or clinics.
Evaluates, analyzes, develops, and formulates guidelines, directives, and policies and procedures in compliance with The Joint Commission (THC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), and other applicable requirements, which are pertinent to the management and administration of the hospital housekeeping.
Advises, establishes, maintains, and provides services of direct services for purchases, quotas, distribution, soiled linen, laundering, repair or replacement, and redistribution that influences the health care delivered to beneficiaries on housekeeping and linen & laundry management operation.
Manages the interior aesthetic environment of the hospital within the bounds of approved building systems and components, local & standard codes, equipment, materials, and furnishings.
Plans, assigns, develops and implements, evaluates, administers, and approves recommendations, trainings, and promotions based on work priorities and performance.
Qualifications

Individual Occupational Requirements:
Undergraduate Education: Major study -- chemistry or biological sciences, sanitary science or administration, institutional sanitation or administration, hospital administration, hotel administration, public administration, business administration, or other fields related to the position.
Graduate Education: Major study -- public health or business administration with emphasis in hospital administration.

Experience: Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in two or more of the following areas, or other work related to the position to be filled:
Experience that demonstrated a practical working knowledge of the basic principles of chemistry, biology, and bacteriology as applied to environmental sanitation, infection control, and to the choice and use of antimicrobial agents in the disinfection, sanitization, and/or sterilization of surfaces and equipment.
Experience in laundry and linen management.
Experience in interior design management.
Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of waste management, including the requirements relating to hazardous, toxic, and infectious wastes and provisions for their final disposition.
Experience that demonstrated a knowledge of pest management, including alternative methods of control and the selection and application of chemicals.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
GS-11: Applicant must have successfully completed 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such degree -OR- Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree -OR- LL.M, if related. -OR- Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector performing the following type of work and/or tasks: ability to plan, organize, conduct, and manage an effective hospital housekeeping program; ensure infection control standards are being met; determine need for allocation of resources; conduct training on cleaning and sanitation; interview candidates for positions.
NOTE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable.
Graduate Education: Education at the graduate level in an accredited college or university in the amounts shown in the table meets the requirements for positions at GS-7 through GS-11. Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work.
One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement.
Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.

Time In Grade
Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade Requirements: Merit Promotion (status) candidates must have completed one year of service at the next lower grade level. Time-In-Grade provisions do not apply under the Excepted Service Examining Plan (ESEP).
