This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: This is an Archeologist GS-0193-11 position with the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, Southwestern Division (SWD), Fort Worth District, located in Jefferson, TX or Texarkana, TX.
Duties
Conduct environmental studies concerning the archeological and cultural historical aspects of operations and maintenance activities at completed Corps water resource project.
Conduct survey, investigation, literature review, excavation, analysis and conservation of cultural resources at operational projects.
Perform and coordinate field investigation, survey and excavation to map and interpret soil profiles and stratigraphic relationships for evaluation of historical and prehistoric cultural level.
Determine need and availability of surveying service and prepare advance layout of work as anticipated from reports or field reconnaissance.
Direct and prepare written report, chart, graph and map for survey report, design memoranda, environmental statement and nomination to the national register on items of archeological, geological and historical significance.
Review operational management plan and determine whether further action is required on cultural resources.
Direct and perform library research concerning paleontology, anthropology, mineralogy, archeology and history of sites under study or scheduled for construction.

0193, Archeology Series Basic Requirement
In addition to needing to meet the above basic requirements, applicant must meet the following specialized experience.
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes performing at least 2 out of 3 of the following duties: 1) Conducting field investigations to collect archeological and cultural environmental data. OR 2) Generating written reports on analyzed fieldwork data. OR 3) Assessing operational projects and permits to ensure compliance with environmental regulations.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Anthropology (with emphasis on ethnology, physical anthropology, or scientific linguistics), history, American studies, or a related discipline. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
