Performs a variety of duties as an electrician including secondary responsibilities in general mechanics. Duties include installation, repair and maintenance of electrical systems, electro-magnetic, electronics and the installation, maintenance and repairs of door electrical, hydraulics and pneumatics systems.

Duties

Duties include, but are not limited to: Performs routine installation, maintenance and repair duties. Works on power cable transformer insulators and control equipment such as switches, circuit breakers and panels. Installs and connects transformers on hangers and platforms. Use and maintain various hand power tools of the trade; may operate aerial trucks and associated equipment. Must be able to work on High Voltage which is determined by the National Electric Code Book as 600V and above. Assembles and repairs generators and rotary converters. Troubleshoots overhead and underground cable systems to locate shorts, opens, ground, crosses, electrolysis damages, capacitance imbalance, or cable breaks. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/06/2024. ***PREFERRED EXPERIENCE: The position requires knowledge of commonly used high voltage electric power-generating and distribution equipment such as generators, transformers, switches circuit breakers, recording instruments and control systems. The employee must have the skill to replace and adjust mechanical contacts, tripping and time-delay intervals of circuit breakers and relays, using feeler gages, dressing tools and timing devices or to program electronic relays, times and trips using microprocessor programming equipment; also required is the skill to plan and carry through the troubleshooting and repair of high voltage generating, controlling and distribution systems, such as repairing switch gear, installing and hooking up transformers, locating defects in cables or selecting materials to make installations or repairs; skills to read and understand circuit breakers in a power-generating facility or the feeders, substations, transformers and interconnections of a distribution system in order to diagnose problems in the electrical system. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Evidence which demonstrates you possess the knowledge, skills, and ability to perform the duties of this position must be supported by detailed descriptions of such on your resume. Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Employee must be able to walk, crawl, reach, stoop, climb, lift up to 60 pounds, and have good bilateral vision and hearing. May frequently be exposed to the hazards of electrical shock, traumatic injury from steam, gas inhalation of fumes and vapors, tripping, falling, cuts, bruises, abrasions, and a variety of diseases. Must observe all safety practices, practice good housekeeping and personal hygiene to offset these conditions. Employee may be required and shall be expected to work overtime. This position requires emergency response to situations involving life, safety, health and may require non-scheduled emergency response anytime day, night or weekend. Must be able to work off of ladders, scaffolds, stages, and in manholes, trenches, crawl spaces, etc. Working Conditions: Work may be indoors or outdoors in climate weather. Must be able to identify colors and makings as established by the American Standard Association for identification of color-coded electrical wires and lines, and electrical components, as well as other piping systems.
