Duties

You will be responsible for providing technical guidance in compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration, Department of the Army regulations, and associated standards across Army installations/activities in the State of Hawaii. You will provide technical advice to the Garrison and Deputy Garrison Commanders, directors, staff officers, managers, division chiefs, and first line supervisors regarding safety program compliance requirements. You will evaluate the effectiveness of safety and health requirements and practices in the work environment in order to assess the degree of compliance with applicable standards. You will evaluate mission needs and assist in developing abatement plans to reduce risk by engineering out or controlling hazards within the assigned directorates. You will conduct surveys to identify and evaluate risk potential involving a wide variety of work environments and occupations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Must have Professional Certificate in Safety and Occupational Health (PCSOH) (or civilian equivalent) and Professional Certificate in Explosive Safety Level I (PCES1) or obtain certifications within 1 year of employment.
  • Must complete Playground Inspector’s Course within 2 years of being assigned.
  • May be required to travel TDY at least 10% of the time.
  • This position may be required to perform key essential employee duties.
  • This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination.

OR Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: [safety or occupational health fields (safety, occupational health, industrial hygiene). OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
