This position is located at US Mint,Denver- MANUFACTURING DEPARTMENT/Plant Manager CO/ Die Manufacturing Division CO. As a Toolmaker, you will be developing non-standard die blank shapes for hub and die designs, which are difficult to fill full design.
Duties
As a Toolmaker, you will:
Fabricate parts for machine tools, jigs, and fixtures; determines work materials, procedures and sequence of operations working from blueprints, sketches, oral instructions; and constructs special tooling as required (e.g., special collects for odd size dies, die sets, and blocks for centering dies on hubbing presses, shields, and drivers.)
Use various techniques to obtain specified dimensions in regard to height and depth of impressions utilizing form grinding methods with special wheels, deburring, and polishing techniques.
Manufacture work hubs used to produce production dies and establishes the impressions on the prepared blank using hydraulic presses to shape the hub or die to specified dimensions using various machine tools, such as: lathes, cylindrical grinders, and surface grinders.
Manufacture collars for coin production in Coining and Numismatics.
Provide technical direction and assistance to the Die Manufacturers and Heat Treaters in the evaluation and measurement of finished products.
Set up work and operate all machine tools, working to close tolerances on such machines as engine lathes, milling machines, surface grinders, external and internal cylindrical grinders, drill presses, and other shop equipment.
