About the Position: This position performs tasks peculiar to the receipt, storage, issue and shipment of ammunition. In addition to performing roles as an ammunition inspector with the secondary role of performing maintenance, repair and warehousing of ammunition and explosives.
Duties
Ensure that commercial carriers delivering ammunition were inspected by appropriate personnel following regulations and operating procedures.
Conduct visual, chemical, mechanical, static, or dimensional tests in workshop, at storage location, at designated inspection station, as required by the particular activity with which engaged.
Determine storage location by classifying materials to ensure compatibility of explosive items and by use of combined storage chart and technical manuals.
Complete shipping documents, entering pertinent data and assures proper number of copies for recording and accounting purposes.
Take location and physical inventories of ammunition.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Obtain and maintain a NACI T1 background investigation.
- Shift work and overtime may be required.
- Incumbent is required to have a valid motor vehicle driver's license.
- Must have or obtain a commercial driver's license to transport hazardous materials (ammunition) in a motor vehicle.
- This position is a drug abuse-testing position and is subject to random urinalysis.
- Obtain and maintain a license to operate a forklift and other material handling equipment.
- Successfully complete and pass a pre-employment physical.
- This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment of the Gun Control Act. (Lautenberg Amendment)
- This position has been designated "mission essential". In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergencies, the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations.
- Business travel up to 10% is required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Examiner and Identifier (Munitions) without more than normal supervision. 1) Receiving shipments of ammunitions/explosives, storing, warehouse and transport of ammunitions and explosives by following the proper techniques and procedures; AND 2) Assessing the condition of munitions and explosive material in order to determine proper disposition. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
To meet the basic eligibility, you must receive at least two points on the screen-out element indicated above and must have an average of two points on all the job elements listed below. Physical Efforts: Works on hard surfaces and in work areas that require standing, stooping, bending, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. May lift and carry items weighing between 45 and 60 pounds. May handle heavier items with weight lifting equipment or with assistance from other workers. Work requires light to moderate physical effort in reaching, bending, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls while driving, raising, lowering, and tilting fork lift trucks. Subject to possible strain caused by vibration of fork lift trucks. Occasionally may be required to make limited emergency repairs on vehicles, such as changing a flat tire.
Working Conditions: Performs work inside in unheated bunkers (igloos) or outside, exposed to all weather conditions. The work is dirty and dusty. Frequently exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes and bruises; falls from vehicles; and injury from material handling equipment. Incumbent is exposed to hazardous agents and unstable materials. Works with and in close proximity to unusually hazardous materials. Must exercise extreme care to prevent fires, explosions, etc. that could result in serious injury, dismemberment, and/or loss of life to self and/or other workers. Subject to hazards resulting from operation of industrial and production equipment, from assembly operations, or from working around powered conveyors, etc., where accidents could result in serious injury. Performs duties in warm, well-lighted rooms, as well as outside harsh, sometimes extreme conditions or in buildings with little or no light and heat. May be required to wear protective clothing such as hard hats, steel toed shoes, rubber gloves, masks, and rubber aprons. Drives motor vehicles in all types of traffic and weather conditions.
