These positions are for a Student Trainee (Land Law), GS-0999-05, located in Bureau of Land Management, New Mexico State Office, in the Minerals Division. These positions are indefinite, Excepted Service appointments that may continue if eligibility requirements are met under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available. Interns may be eligible for non-competitive conversion to permanent employment. ** Please see the Additional Information Section Below**

Duties

Collect data of assigned cases related to lands, oil and gas, mining, or minerals. Determine the accuracy and proper execution of applications and/or claims for qualified applicants. Answer written inquiries from customers regarding mineral laws or regulations. Use computer applications to enter and manipulate data according to approved agency standards.

Qualifications

In order to qualify, you must meet the Eligibility AND Education requirements described below. You must provide documentation to support your eligibility and education to include a school letter of acceptance and a copy of your transcripts. Eligibility Requirement: Applicants must be a student (16 years of age or older) currently enrolled or accepted for enrollment and seeking a Pathway's Internship Eligibility: degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying accredited educational institution (i.e high school, technical or vocational school, college, university, graduate or professional school) on a full- or half-time basis (Note: You must provide documentation of your current enrollment course load). **AND** Education Requirement for GS-05: Successful completion of at least four academic years of post-high school leading to a bachelor's degree or equivalent degree. (Note: You must provide copies of your transcripts). Applicants must meet all eligibility and education requirements by the closing date of this announcement-03/12/2024.

Education

To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.

You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.

If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
