About the Position: This position is with the United States Army Corps Engineers, Mobile District, Black Water & Tombigbee Alabama-Coosa Project, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama aboard the Motor Vessel Lawson. The incumbent will live on the vessel during the work week.

Duties

Change oil, fluids and filters in engines and generators as necessary and according to established schedules Monitor engines and generators and all accessible bearings and moving parts for proper running temperatures. Dismantle equipment in connection with cleaning, greasing and performing routine repairs and preventative maintenance Determine tools, parts, equipment and supplies needed, including proper types, sizes and materials for maintenance and repair of marine machinery

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Selectee will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • Pre-Employment and random drug and alcohol testing is required.
  • Incumbent must obtain and maintain a state issued driver's license.
  • Requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, or special situations
  • Work requires lifting and moving heavy items (up to 40 pounds)

Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision Screen OutAbility To Use and Maintain Tools and EquipmentKnowledge of MaterialsTechnical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical effort: Incumbent is required to exert moderate to heavy physical effort in operating and making repairs to engines and equipment. Parts, equipment, and systems are in hard to reach places requiring the incumbent to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts, carries, and sets up parts and equipment that weigh up to 40 pounds. Working Conditions: Work is performed primarily inside. There is some exposure to drafts, changing temperatures and noise. When working outside, incumbent is exposed to the inclement weather. Incumbent is frequently exposed to irritation or discomfort from dust, heat, fumes, and from hard, damp floors. Typically the machinery worked on is dirty, oily, or greasy.
