The incumbent will provide investigative analytical and organization assistance in support of domestic and international law enforcement cases to share information regarding criminal cases and subjects between U.S. and foreign law enforcement.

Duties

The duties and responsibilities for a Criminal Investigative Specialist (Law Enforcement) generally include, but are not limited to, the following: Collects, organizes, and analyzes information related to a variety of law enforcement cooperation requests. Reviews information, reconciles conflicting data, and devises methods to analyze findings. Performs research and analysis to draft necessary written documentation, obtains input and review from others, and coordinates and ensures implementation. Conducts queries of law enforcement systems and identifies data for entry into case management system. Records information and prepares summary legal and criminal investigative reports. Communicates in writing and verbally with domestic and/or foreign law enforcement regarding criminal cases. Writes correspondence and reports related to work assignments conducted under minimal supervisory guidance. Maintains liaison and operational relationships with: agency supervisors; federal agency partners; state and local prosecutors and/or law enforcement authorities; and/or various U.S. and foreign agencies.

Requirements

  • You must be a United States Citizen or National.
  • You will be required to complete a pre-employment security investigation and background check which includes a drug screening.
  • You may be required to complete a one-year probationary or two-year trial period.
  • Selective Service registration is required for males born on, or after, December 31st 1959. Those not registered should have an approved exemption on file.

Qualifications

To qualify for the position of Criminal Investigative Specialist (Law Enforcement) at (GS-1801-12), you must meet the basic qualification requirements listed below AND possess the required specialized experience specific to this series and grade you're applying to. If you are a current or former government employee on a permanent appointment in the competitive service, you will need to demonstrate 1-year (52-weeks) at the next lower grade level, to meet the time-in-grade requirements for this occupational series and grade. Additionally, please ensure to submit an applicable SF50 (please refer to the "required documents" section for additional information). For the GS-12: Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the Federal service. The specialized experience is defined as: (1) Analyzing and processing incoming Wanted Person Red Notice and Diffusion requests from federal, state, tribal, and local prosecutors and law enforcement authorities. (2) Searching and gathering a broad range of information using court documents and law enforcement investigative systems to identify relevant data and/or criminal records on subjects of investigations. (3) Researching, compiling, and examining criminal investigative and other information from a variety of sources to develop investigative subject profiles. (4) Preparing legal and criminal investigative reports or other working documents related to complex legal and/or criminal investigative issues.
