This position is a Laborer, WG-3502-4, working in Commerce City, Colorado, for the Colorado Front Range National Wildlife Refuge.

Duties
As a Laborer, your duties will include, but are not limited to, the following:
Use a variety of tools and equipment such as shovels, tampers, axes, brush hook, picks, power buffer, sledgehammers and wheelbarrows to perform duties of a laborer position.
Operate complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized heavy-duty equipment.
Operate industrial-type powered cleaning equipment such as scrubbers and vacuum cleaners.
Perform maintenance on mowers and various other equipment.
Requirements

Although no specific amount of experience, education or training is required, applicants must meet a minimum level of ability in relation to the position and the Assessment Questionnaire in order to be rated qualified for consideration. To be qualified candidates must meet any screen out element(s) listed at an "acceptable" level, and must achieve an average rating of at least "acceptable" on all of the elements. Only education, training, or experience acquired before the closing date will be considered.
SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. The potential eligibles are then rated against the remainder of the Job Elements.
The screen out element for this position is: Ability to perform Laborer duties without more than normal supervision.
Ability to carry out basic manual labor activities and to use common tools.
Knowledge of proper use of safety procedures for operating hand tools and common power equipment.
Skill and ability to operate complex riding mowers and similar types of specialized heavy-duty equipment.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
