This position is in the Maintenance and Repair Section of the Facilities Management Service at Altoona VA Medical Center (AVAMC). This position is under the supervision of the Maintenance and Repair Supervisor. This position is responsible for the maintenance, operation, and repair of the electrical/power systems of the AVAMC.

Duties

Major duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Electrician; installs, maintains, repairs, and performs preventive maintenance on a variety of electrical and industrial equipment and control systems, power control and distribution system components and equipment, such as: high and low voltage switchgear, transformers, motor control centers, panel boards, generators, lighting, switches, receptacles, enclosed circuit breakers, relay control panels, controllers, electrical detection, warning, and annunciation systems, motors, motor controllers, domestic appliances, dust collection systems, pumps, kitchen and laundry equipment, utility plant equipment, automatic door operating mechanisms and systems, elevators, dumbwaiters, conveyors, fans, exhaust systems, etc. Knowledgeable and able to provide back up on the fire alarm and suppression system. Provide backup support for Elevator mechanic. Other duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Carpentry work as needed; work with journeyman level Carpenter to install, replace, and repair flooring surfaces to include but not be limited to vinyl composite tile, vinyl plank, carpet, and sheet goods. Work with journeyman level carpenter in hanging drywall, finishing, and painting. Plumbing work as needed; assist journeyman level pipefitters in the repairs with installs, modifying, and repairs new and existing utility, supply, and disposal systems. Assist journeyman level pipefitters in repairs to equipment such as sewage, water, oil, and gas distribution systems and water closets, tubs, fire sprinkler systems, and showers. Locksmith work as needed; repair and maintain a variety of standard mechanical/electronic locking devices. Basic knowledge of computers and computer operating systems, networking, and hardware to interface the many devices used to connect and program electronic locks, locking devices and electronic keys. Assist with snow removal in the winter. Work Schedule: Monday through Friday, 3:00pm - 11:30pm Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD025550 Critical Skills Incentive (CSI): Eligible Physical Requirements: You must be able to lift and carry heavy objects (occasionally in excess of 40 pounds) and hold them in awkward positions while they are being installed or removed. You must be able to work for prolonged periods while kneeling, crouching, stooping, and/or standing in awkward positions and to climb and work from ladders, man lifts, scaffolding, and roofs.
