About the Position: Serves as Chief of Project Fisheries responsible for managing assigned in-house fisheries programs at the District's multiple use water resources/hydroelectric projects. Programs encompass many methods of fish studies, monitoring, and evaluation techniques; some of which may be experimental, unprecedented, and controversial. Primary emphasis on safe passage of anadromous fish migrations and resident fish.

Duties

Provide guidance and input on study designs, project impacts, job and activities hazard analyses, methods, techniques, equipment, data collection, data analysis, and reporting of results on assigned fish evaluation programs. Develop plans for and oversees implementation of in-house fish monitoring and evaluation activities. Responsible for project fisheries budget. Provides expert advice and assistance to scientists and management officials. Develop scopes of work for assigned contract fish evaluations and monitoring including review of resulting proposals, contract negotiations, contract modifications and continuing coordination

Qualifications

Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Individual Occupational Requirement: A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in biological science that included at least 6 semester hours in aquatic subjects such as limnology, ichthyology, fishery biology, aquatic botany, aquatic fauna, oceanography, fish culture, or related courses in the field of fishery biology; AND at least 12 semester hours in the animal sciences in such subjects as general zoology, vertebrate zoology, comparative anatomy, physiology, entomology, parasitology, ecology, cellular biology, genetics, or research in these fields, or excess course work (beyond the required 6 semester hours) in aquatic subjects. -OR- B. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major in biological science (i.e., at least 30 semester hours), of which a minimum of 6 semester hours were in aquatic subjects and 12 semester hours were in the animal sciences, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Minimum Qualification: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes monitoring and evaluating salmonids (salmon, steelhead, etc.) fish passage structures such as those found at hydroelectric facilities, and experience coordinating or conducting fish studies or research. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11).Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
