These positions are located in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, in the Interpretation Division.

Area of consideration is limited to Students who live or attend school within the local commuting area 50 mile radius of Hawaii NP, Hawaii.
Duties
Temporary appointment not-to-exceed one year but may be extended each year without further competition, if you continue to meet the eligibility requirements under the Pathways Internship program and funding is available.
To be eligible for student internship-
Must be a U.S. citizen and at least 16 years of age:
Must have been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled as a high school student or degree-seeking (diploma, certificate, etc.) student in an accredited high school, technical, trade, vocational, business school, two-year or four-year college or university, graduate or professional school; individuals who are enrolled must be taking at least a half-time course load and be in good standing (2.0 GPA or above). "Halftime" is defined by the school in which the student is enrolled;
Qualifying certificate programs are post-high school programs equivalent to at least one academic year of full-time study that is part of an accredited college-level, technical, trade, vocational, or business school curriculum; and
Educational institutions must be accredited by organizations recognized by the U.S. Department of Education
As a Student Trainee (Park Guide) at Hawaii Volcanoes National Park, you will:
Assist Park Rangers with visitor contacts and conducting visitor center duties including Junior Ranger, guided hikes and historical programming.
Provide direction, information, and orientation about services or activities of interest to the public; serve as front-line representative of the organization to greet customers an answer questions; educate customers regarding rules, regulations, and safety concerns to gain compliance; direct customers with problems, questions, or complaints to the appropriate person; interact with others to resolve complaints and conflicts; and work independently handling stressful or controversial situations.
Provide positive and productive interactions with a diverse public representing a cross-section of the nation and other countries to include; different cultures, ages, social, ethnic, and economic groups, etc.; present informational talks, guided tours, and demonstrations, following a prescribed outline, to various audiences to inform or educate; respond verbally to customers' inquiries for information, direction, and/or guidance; initiate verbal communication with customers in a variety of settings to inform, educate and/or guide; and explain the significance of an areas facility's natural, cultural, historic, or other resources.
Qualifications
All qualifications must be met by the closing date of this announcement-03/03/2024-unless otherwise stated in this vacancy announcement.

Appointment can be terminated at any time due to lack of need and/or funding; OR upon completion of your education program; OR based on failure to comply with Pathways requirements.
To qualify for a position at the GS-01 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualification by close of the announcement.
Must be enrolled in a high school diploma, General Education Diploma (GED) or higher level program.
If you are graduating in the spring of 2024, you must receive acceptance into a bachelor's or post-bachelor's program or higher for Summer or Fall 2024 to be eligible for the Summer Program. In order to participate in the Program, proof of acceptance must be submitted prior to start date.
Education
To qualify based on education, you must submit a legible copy of transcripts from an
accredited institution with your name, school name, credit hours, course level, major(s), and grade-point average or class ranking. Transcripts do not need to be official, but if you are selected for this position and you used your education to qualify, you must provide official transcripts before you begin work.
You will NOT be considered under Pathways unless you provide supporting information from your school. Documentation may be provided in letter format from your academic advisor, school counselor, admission office, etc. to prove enrollment OR it may be provided in the form of several official documents from your school such as a copy of your official transcripts and a copy of your class schedule for next semester. Copies of documents from your school website are acceptable if they contain all relevant information as listed above. Letters from advisors or other school officials must be on school letterhead.
If you are using
education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet qualification requirements, you must show that your education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
