The primary purpose of the position is to assist the primary nurse with patient care, receives and directs patients, answers routine inquiries. The incumbent functions under the direction of the RN. The incumbent provides clinical, programmatic, technical, and clerical support in the Emergency Department.

Duties

This is a developmental position in which you will be expected to support the variety of specialties within the Specialty Care Clinic by acting with supervision from a licensed health care professional to perform clinical and administrative duties. As a Health Technician (Office Automation), you will: Perform direct patient care including personal hygiene, physical comfort, nutrition, elimination, prevention of skin breakdown, safety, etc. Receive and direct patients, answers routine inquiries and makes referrals. Receive and respond to a number of unclear inquires form patients concerning a variety of medical personnel and administrative matters. Maintain stock of supplies and sterility of instruments. Perform or assist Triage staff with diagnostic procedures including EKGs, venipunctures, and alcohol breathalyzer used to diagnose medical conditions. Assist in the performance of or independently performs procedures such as insertion of urinary catheters and intravenous catheters. Perform patient care procedures such as collection of specimens, applying dressings, and adjusting supportive equipment. Perform duties in accordance with Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and applicable laws and policies. Instruct patients in crutch, walker and or cane use and ensures correct fitting of equipment. Perform duties involving customer service and or public liaison. Perform duties in accordance to applicable safety precautions and infection control. Operate emergency department equipment such as Telemetry and automated external defibrillator (AED). Provide general clerical/administrative support coordination work for the Triage area. Collect and organize statistical data for reports. Perform patient charting using standard medical terminology entering information regarding care rendered, condition and progress. Promotion Potential to GS-04, 05: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level. Work Schedule: 0730-1600 * Possible Saturday Rotation Virtual: This is not a virtual position. To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/07/2024. Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR): You must have successfully completed 1-year of study that included study in medical, health, or related fields. In addition to the IOR above, you must have the following General Experience: General Experience: You must have at least 6-months general experience - any type of work that demonstrates the ability to perform the work or experience that provided familiarity with the subject matter or processes of the broad subject area of the position. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Work requires walking, bending, standing, and sitting. You will be required to assist in lifting and supporting Veterans and carry up to 20 pounds.
