Duties
Provides leadership and direction to the Correctional Services Department. Responsible for institutional security, inmate conduct and discipline, inmate work, control of hazardous tools and material, safety, sanitation, control and use of institution vehicles, and key control in his/her assigned areas. Inspects facilities, observes personnel and inmates from the standpoint of security, morale and employee-inmate relations, and overall program coordination. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Education: There is no substitution of education for specialized experience for this position. Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the qualifications necessary to successfully perform the duties of the position. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience applying counseling and guidance skills and techniques in order to effectively influence the attitudes, behavior and work habits of inmates and interpersonal communications in order to instruct, advise and provide information and training.
Experience developing budgets and preparing quarterly and annual reports for a department to meet custodial requirements, security concerns, inmate care, and administrative needs.
Experience implementing departmental and agency laws, regulations and procedures applicable to a correctional management program to ensure maximum correctional impact.
Experience managing an effective correctional program assuring a secure and safe environment for inmates and staff through the performance of a variety of administrative, correctional, supervisory and managerial duties.
