About the position: This position will be assigned to the Outdoor Recreation Center on JBER, AK.
This a Regular Full-Time position.
Regular Full-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties
Leads small engine mechanics and up to 2 laborers in maintaining rental equipment and delegating work to be done by order of priority.
Diagnoses malfunctions of outboard motors, snow machines, travel trailers, ATVs, motor vehicles and other equipment to determine the source of trouble and to determine the extent of repairs required, including electrical systems, geared units, and components. According to manufacturers' manuals, tears down, adjusts, repairs, reassembles, and runs operational checks on equipment. Times and adjusts engines to operating tolerances, using specialized testing equipment, such as compression testers, analyzers, test benches, and specialized measuring instruments. May be required to work weekends, holidays, and or shifts.
Instructs patrons in all phases of safety regulations concerning use of boats, motors and other issued equipment. May collect fees for rental of equipment and prepare daily cash reports and deposit funds.
Determines supplies and parts needed for repair of equipment items. Reports directly to supervisor the status of all equipment and provides detailed lists and quotes for parts needed for repair and inventory. Must maintain maintenance records on all equipment repaired, annotating labor hours, materials, and date of repair. Based on these records, determines bench stock required and maintenance schedules.
Adheres to all required AF fire/safety policies, OSHA and HAZMAT/HAZCOM requirements and maintains all required documentation.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
OTHER SIGNIFICANT FACTS:Skill and Knowledge: Ability to test and troubleshoot components and systems equipment defects for outboard engines boat motors, snow machines, ATVs and travel trailers and motor vehicles. Ability to interpret and apply manufacturers' repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, diagnostic codes, and safety manuals. Ability to operate electronic test equipment.Physical Effort: Requires frequent standing, bending, stooping, crawling under vehicles, and working in tight spaces. Frequently lifts, handles, and carriers parts and equipment weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally, moves moderately heavy items with assistance or with mechanical devices, including objects weighing up to or over 50 pounds.Working Conditions: Work is performed inside and outside and is usually dirty and greasy. Gasoline and exhaust fumes may be present. Exposed to grease, noise, cuts, bruises, and falling or slipping on wet surfaces. Requires caution in working with moving parts during operation of equipment.

Requirements
- This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.
- The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

Qualifying Experience:
Ability to lead 3 or more small engine mechanics to accomplish general maintenance and repairs. Must have demonstrated experience in leading the work of others. Must have experience in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul of outboard boat motors and gasoline motor malfunctions. This experience must have provided a thorough knowledge of and the ability to test and troubleshoot components and systems to locate marine equipment defects; interpret and apply manufacturer's repair manuals and technical specifications, schematics, diagnostic codes, and safety manuals; operate electronic test equipment. Experience in the maintenance, repair, and overhaul snow machines, travel trailers, ATVs and motor vehicles is preferred. Must be physically able to frequently lift, handle and carry objects weighing up to 40 pounds, and with assistance, objects up to and over 50 pounds. Must be able to frequently stand, bend, stoop, crawl, and work in tight spaces for long periods of time. Must have a valid driver's license. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a pre-employment physical and drug test. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a Tier 1 investigation.
Education
Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does not allow for education substitution.
