About the Position: This position is located with the U.S. Army Sustainment Command, 404th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center at Fort Devens, MA.

Duties

Assures the movement of material and personnel by various modes of transportation, government and private. Requests Special Assignment Airlift Mission (SAAM) for movement of groups with 100 or more passengers in a chartered aircraft. Receives and reviews movement directives of various commands to determine type of movement, mode and timeframe. Conducts random on-site visits to local bus companies to ensure operations are in accordance with the Military Bus Agreement. Processes bus requests, reviews vendor bids and analyzes requirements based on cost, availability, special needs and other factors. Coordinates with the unit to determine the exact number and types of equipment, vehicles and supplies to be transported. Coordinates with the commercial traffic office on the requirements for unit and group moves. Maintains and utilizes Transportation Coordinator Automated Information for Movement System equipment.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Position requires incumbent to obtain and maintain a Tier 1 - National Agency Check with Inquiries (NACI).
  • Position may require incumbent to perform TDY up to 10%.
  • This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program. The incumbent must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
  • Employee must be able to attend and pass the HAZMAT certification training to retain position.
  • Must be able to operate in high temperature and areas of high noises during Airport/Seaport operations.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1) Applying traffic management practices and procedures related to the movement of personnel and equipment; 2) Applying transportation principles, methods, regulations and procedures to resolve issues and problems regarding shipments; and 3) Utilizing an automated transportation information system/database. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree with a major study in accounting, business administration, business or commercial law, commerce, economics, engineering, finance, industrial management, statistics, traffic management, transportation, motor mechanics, or other fields related to the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Computer LiteracyOral CommunicationQuality ManagementTransportation Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
