The incumbent works as the C&P technical assistant for the Medical Center staff in the specialized area of credentialing and privileging and is responsible for maintaining all appropriate Department of Veterans (DVA) handbooks, manuals, directives, circulars, and bulletins, and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations (JCAHO) standards. Incumbent is responsible for ensuring that all C&P Policies and procedures at the Medical Center are in compliance with VA requirements.
Duties
The Credentialing Specialist has continuing responsibility for specialized duties to accomplish the mission and function of the credentials program at the VAMC. Serves as subject matter expert (SME) in the field of credentialing.
Assists C&P Manager or Analyst in drafting local credentialing procedures for LIP and Non-LIPs.
Receives and reviews correspondence and communications for the credentials function and determines which items require immediate attention and which are confidential in nature.
Primary source verification includes, but may not be limited to, the National Practitioner Data Bank (NPDB), state licensing agencies, specialty certification boards, universities, DoD and healthcare facilities and assist with verification of LIP applications.
Determines processes for coordination of incoming data and documents from a variety of sources.
Conducts final appointment into the VetPro database, after thoroughly researching, analyzing and validating all data, information, documents and signature authorities.
Develops and provides routine and special reports as requested by the C&P Manager/Analyst.
Maintains local VAMC requirement files and records pertaining to the credentialing process.
Uses appropriate safeguards to ensure provider confidentiality during the C&P process.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Promotion Potential: The selectee may be promoted to the full performance level without further competition when all regulatory, qualification, and performance requirements are met. Selection at a lower grade level does not guarantee promotion to the full performance level.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/11/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement.
For a GS-6 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-5.
For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6.
The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.

At the GS-06 developmental level, the Supervisor provides continuing assignments indicating generally what is to be done, required information, limitations, deadlines and priorities. The supervisor provides advice or additional specific instructions for difficult, new or special assignments including work methods.
The employee uses initiative and works independently within the framework established by the Supervisor in carrying out recurring assignments such as providing administrative and technical support, follows established procedures or instructions that specifically describe how the work is to be done and the kind of modifications or exceptions that can be made and refers specific problems not covered by the supervisor's instructions or standard operating procedures to the supervisor for assistance and/or decision.
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to:
analyzing and managing issues related to documents that do not meet expected requirements, regulations or guidelines such as adverse actions against licensures, certifications, and NPDB/ CQ reports;
maintaining records, reconciling monthly charge statements;
verifying legitimacy of requests for NPDB Single and CQ enrollments/ renewals, licensure verification;
receiving and reviewing VetPro (Credentialing) reports;
detecting problem areas requiring further investigation;
researching regulations and standards to identify appropriate action necessary to correct the problem;
elevating serious issues to C&P Manager/Analyst for guidance.
