This position is assigned to the Non-Appropriated Fund (NAF) Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branch; Fleet Readiness; Commander, Navy Installations Command (CNIC) NSA HAMPTON ROADS.
Incumbent serves in an assistant or support capacity and may perform any or all of the following duties within either of the following sections of the Fitness, Sports, and Deployed Forces Support Branches.
Duties
Responsible for conducting one or more group exercises classes which includes but is not limited to lectures, exercise instruction and various athletic endeavors. Must promote good patron relationships and enhance the image of the respective program. The incumbent reviews the schedule of functions that are to take place during the assigned shift in order to ascertain what special preparations are required. Ensures the necessary space, supplies and equipment are available and that room arrangements are completed prior to start of class. Provides instruction and guidance to all patrons. Exercises supervision over all operation of the class/activity. Performs other related duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Must pass all applicable records and background check
- Must successfully pass the E-Verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid Certification
- Must have or be able to obtain and maintain the following certificates within 90 days of hire: Automated External Defibrillator Certification, Blood-borne Pathogen Certification, and Navy Basic Fitness Certification
- Must possess and maintain at all times a Certified Group Exercise lnstructor/Trainer Certificate from one of the following organizations; American College of Sports Medicine (ACSM); Cooper Institute; American Council on Exercise (ACE);

Qualifications

FACTOR 1. Knowledge, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Must be a mature individual with prior leader/Supervisory experience.
Must possess an adequate level of physical fitness to use and demonstrate all exercises, and be able to lead all classes.
Excellent written and verbal communication and review skills are required to assess patron needs and assist with the promotion and marketing to the program, Considerable tact and diplomacy as well as finesse are required when interacting with participants. Basic knowledge of marketing/publicity materials and the use of basic computer hardware and software is preferred.
FACTOR 2. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
-This position reports directly to the Fitness Director or his designee who will evaluate work in terms of overall objectives, basic priorities and class schedules, The incumbent act independently in performance of duties. The supervisor is available to provide guidance on program activities and in when unusual or difficult situations arise. Work is reviewed in terms Of compliance with established guidelines, practices and customer satisfaction.
FACTOR 3. GUIDELINES
Guidelines include DOD manuals and directives; OPNAV instructions pertaining to physical readiness standards; and Standard Operating Procedures. All established program to improve and policies are based on generally accepted procedures as found in the field of physical education and exorcise science and are sufficiently to enable the incumbent to carry out duties with little or no further instruction.
FACTOR 4. COMPLEXITY
Work includes the development of one of more group exercise programs to improve physical readiness of military personnel and other authorized participants. Motivation participants to develop wellness lifestyles, which promote fundamental changes in their approach to health and fitness. Public relations and promotional skills are helpful to continued success of the Navy Fitness Program.
FACTOR 5. SCOPE AND EFFECT
This position promotes maximum participation in fitness activities. The fitness program will have a beneficial impact on the future of the Navy to attract and retain members; provide a fit and ready defense force; improve the current physical assessment of military members and to improve their health and sense of well-being.
FACTOR 6. PERSONAL CONTACTS
Personal Contacts include active duty, retired military members, their family members and authorized DOD civilian personnel as well ag other departmental employees, management and various organizations and interested groups.
FACTOR 7, PURPOSE OF CONTACTS
The purpose of these contacts are to educate, instruct, and motivate current and potential patrons to utilize the group exercise program to Obtain optimal results for their exercise program, The incumbent must be able to exercise good judgment and display a sound personal character and cooperative demeanor in serving the military community.
FACTOR 8. PHYSICAL DEMANDS
The work requires an adequate lever of physical fitness. Incumbent must have the ability to Walk, stand, run, bike. bend, push, pull and lift up to 45 pounds unassisted, as to perform fitness tests, demonstrate proper exercises, participate in various individual and group fitness activities and set a positive example of overall physical May be required to lift over 45 pounds with assistance.
FACTOR 9. WORR ENVIRONMENT
Work is performed in a fitness center setting requiring safety precautions to avoid muscle strain or other bodily injury. Incumbent works in moderate climate with pleasant surroundings.
