About the Position: You will perform as a Geospatial Coordinator for the Engineering and Construction Branch Surveying and Mapping Section, located in Nashville, TN.
Duties
Plan, coordinate and develop digital data and mapping (raster and vector) products.
Assist staff in obtaining and maintaining current and useful aerial photographs, ortho-photos, satellite imagery, base maps, resource map data for GIS applications and data base development.
Ensure Mapping products adhere to relevant standards and regulations. Ensures mapping and related GIS geospatial data metadata files are completed and submitted to the National Spatial Data Clearinghouse according to guidelines.
Assist supervisor with the preparation of costs estimates, schedules, budgets, training plans and other requested input.
Plan, coordinate and implement GIS projects utilizing new GIS and engineering technologies, and a variety of computer systems, software and procedures to accomplish assignments in the most expeditiously and economical manner.
Prepare or oversee the preparation of Mapping and/or GIS provisions, specifications and estimates for negotiations of Architect-Engineering (A-E) contracts.

Basic Education Requirement for Cartographer-1370
Degree: Cartography; or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography and/or directly related science, and related mathematics. Such course work includes, but is not limited to, cartography, astronomy, geodesy, photogrammetry, physical and geological oceanography, computer science, land surveying, geophysics, physical geography, and remote sensing. The 30 semester hours must have included at least 6, but no more than 15, semester hours of college level, non-business mathematics or statistics (i.e., college level algebra, trigonometry, calculus, or scientific mathematics or statistics requiring equivalent college-level courses as prerequisites);
OR
Combination of education and experience -- courses equivalent to a major in cartography, or a major that included or was supplemented by at least 30 semester hours in cartography, and/or directly related science, and related mathematics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
Basic Requirements for Land Surveryor-1373.
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in land surveying; or civil engineering with a surveying option/emphasis. My civil engineering major included at least 6 semester hours of surveying, 3 semester hours of land law, and 21 additional semester hours in any combination of the following: surveying, photogrammetry, geodetic surveying, geodesy, route surveying, remote sensing, cartography, survey astronomy, land information systems, computer-aided mapping, aerial photo interpretation, and survey analysis and adjustments. A combination of education and experience which includes courses equivalent to a major in land surveying or civil engineering, as described in paragraph A, plus appropriate experience or additional education. To qualify at the GS-11 grade level, you must have:
Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting staff in obtaining and maintaining current and useful aerial photographs, ortho-photos, satellite imagery, base maps, resource map data for GIS applications and data base development; providing support in the acquisition, development, organization, and maintenance of digital, spatial and relational data and support services required in the accomplishment of District projects and programs. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09)
OR
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the work of the position. OR
Have the specialized experience as described above, but less than one year; and I have at least two years of graduate education as described above, but less than the required three years. I have computed the percentage of the requirements that I meet, and the total is at least 100% (To compute the percentage, divide your total months of qualifying experience by 12. Then, divide your semester hours of graduate education beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing knowledge of surveying, geodesy, photogrammetry, mapping, engineering, Geographic Information Systems (GIS); using computers to plan, coordinate, and accomplish the District mapping and GIS tasks; providing technical assistance to other District elements involving unique or complicated engineering problems through state-of-the-art computer equipment and technology and a wide variety of computer applications such as Mapping, GIS, Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD), and related databases; assisting supervisor with the preparation of costs estimates, schedules, budgets, training plans and other requested input. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)

Basic Education Requirement for Civil Engineer-0810
A bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in engineering. To be acceptable, the program must:(1) lead to a bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in a school of engineering with at least one program accredited by the Accreditation Board for Engineering and Technology (ABET);
OR
(2) include differential and integral calculus and courses (more advanced than first-year physics and chemistry) in five of the following seven areas of engineering science or physics: (a) statics, dynamics; (b) strength of materials (stress-strain relationships); (c) fluid mechanics, hydraulics; (d) thermodynamics; (e) electrical fields and circuits; (f) nature and properties of materials (relating particle and aggregate structure to properties); and (g) any other comparable area of fundamental engineering science or physics, such as optics, heat transfer, soil mechanics, or electronics. A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. I have successfully completed at least 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours of courses in the physical, mathematical, and engineering sciences that included the courses specified in A above. A combination of education and experience that furnished (1) a thorough knowledge of the physical and mathematical sciences underlying engineering, and (2) a good understanding, both theoretical and practical, of the engineering sciences and techniques and their applications to one of the branches of engineering. I have successfully completed a curriculum leading to a bachelor's degree in an appropriate scientific field, e.g., engineering technology, physics, chemistry, architecture, computer science, mathematics, hydrology, or geology, and have at least 1 year of professional engineering experience acquired under professional engineering supervision and guidance. Ordinarily there should be either an established plan of intensive training to develop professional engineering competence, or several years of prior professional engineering-type experience, e.g., in interdisciplinary positions.
