This position is located in the Neuropsychology Service, Outpatient Mental Health Service at Captain James A. Lovell Federal Health Care Center (FHCC). The incumbent of this position will provide administration and scoring of a wide range of specialized individually-administered neuropsychological and psychological tests to inpatients and outpatients to assure prompt response to evaluative referral requests and to assist in determining neurobehavioral and psychiatric status.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to: Administer and score neuropsychological assessment instruments. Administer and score assessment of emotional status, personality, and/or functional capability, including complex measures. Operate equipment such as computers, tape recorders, or other specialized assessment equipment; use computers for data entry, scoring, and analysis for program evaluation. Provide patients and/ or significant others with a rationale for specific testing procedures; encourage cooperation during assessment; establish and maintain rapport with patients; provide sensitive communication. Observe atypical habits, physical disabilities, emotional and personality features, and any previous injury. Oversee neuropsychology administrative caseload organization and scheduling of referrals. Provide timely and appropriate documentation within the medical record; provide timely, organized and legible presentation of patient data, present tabular or graphic displays of data as necessary. Maintain filing system of patient data; maintain stock of assessment materials; monitor the security of patient files, test materials, and equipment. Assist with training of psychology students, interns, and fellows in the proper administration and scoring of neuropsychological assessment procedures. Collect and maintain data relating to consultation services. Report all accidents and unsafe/ unhealthful conditions in the workplace. Work Schedule: Monday-Friday, 0730-1600 Telework: VA supports the use of telework as a way to help attract and retain talented individuals in public service, increase worker productivity, and better prepare the agency to operate during emergencies. Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/18/2024. Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-7 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-6. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below: Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-6 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: Clinical interview of patients, taking and documenting vital signs, administration and scoring of psychological tests, behavior observations, data collection, patient referrals, organizational evaluations/ consultations, staff training. OR, Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have one full year of graduate level education. Education must be directly related to the work of this position. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary, conducted in an office setting. The stress involved in dealing frequently with persons who are emotionally or physically distressed, cognitively impaired, communication-impaired, and who may be uncooperative, poorly motivated, obstreperous, or possibly assaultive, makes this position appreciably more demanding than most sedentary lines of employment. Dexterity, proficient handwriting speed, specific physical agility, visual and auditory acuity are required, as well as walking, listening, and writing, sitting for prolonged periods.
