Duties
As a Behavioral Scientist, you will:
Apply behavioral and social science theories, methods, and techniques to develop, implement, and evaluate programs and policies impacting local, state/territory, federal, or international public health and health disparities or vulnerable populations.
Recommend changes in programs, policies, and/or resource allocations as a result of these efforts.
Design and conduct studies and research using behavioral and social science perspectives of public health issues and problems.
Collect, analyze and interpret data using appropriate quantitative or qualitative methods.
Conducts research syntheses, systematic reviews, and meta-analyses to summarize evidence.
Prepare original scientific research papers and literature reviews dealing with behavioral issues and submits for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
Develop presentations for conferences and meetings.
Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:
Degree: behavioral or social science; or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
OR
A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Or
Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
Minimum Qualifications:
To qualify at the GS-13 grade level, you must have at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 grade level, which must include the following experience: managing, developing, evaluating, and/or providing recommendations on public health programs, policies, and activities.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
Education
A copy of your transcripts or equivalent documentation is required for positions with an education requirement, or if you are qualifying based on education or a combination of education and experience. An official transcript will be required if you are selected.
A college or university degree generally must be from an accredited (or pre-accredited) college or university recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. For a list of schools which meet these criteria, please refer to

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
