This position is located in the Division of Depositor and Consumer Protection, Headquarters Office of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation and provides support in the areas of developing and maintaining expertise in machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI/ML) and applying the expertise to the supervision of regulated institutions, primarily within the context of ensuring compliance with depositor and consumer protection regulations and standards.

Qualifications
Qualifying experience may be obtained in the private or public sector. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g. Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious spiritual; community; student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. Basic Requirements:
1. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position.
or
2. Combination of Education and Experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements above, applicants must meet the following:
At the CG-11 level:
Experience: Applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the grade 9 level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as utilizing analytical software and programming languages such as Matlab, Perl Python, R, SAS, SQL, and Stata to prepare datasets, clean imperfect data, and combine diverse data for analytical use; and providing data science-related support to research projects.
or
Education: Applicants must possess a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D.
or
Combination of Education and Experience: A qualifying combination of Specialized Experience and Education as described above that together meet the qualification requirements for this position.
At the CG-12 level:
To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 11 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience utilizing analytical software and programming languages such as Matlab, Perl Python, R, SAS, SQL, and Stata to prepare datasets, clean imperfect data, and combine diverse data for analytical use; providing data science-related support for bank examinations; and developing and maintaining artificial intelligence / machine learning applications.
At the CG-13 level:
To qualify, applicants must have completed at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the 12 grade level or above in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as experience utilizing distributed computing software and databases such as Matlab, Perl Python, R, SAS, SQL; applying principles, concepts, and theories of data science to conduct data analyses; and providing data science-related support for bank examinations, to design, develop and maintain artificial intelligence / machine learning applications.
