Duties

You will conduct misdemeanor and felony investigations of alleged or suspected violations of federal criminal laws within established USMC/NCIS thresholds. You will investigate, apprehend or detain individuals suspected or convicted of violations of the criminal laws of the U.S and U.S. Military. You will secure signed affidavits/statements and/or video/audio tape evidence from witnesses; record, identify and maintain integrity of physical evidence; ensure all physical evidence is entered into evidence custody system and secured. You will analyze and evaluate investigative results, organize them in and prepares clear, comprehensive, cohesive, and concise reports, ensuring compliance with investigative standards, guidelines and policies. You will receive criminal complaints and respond to crime scenes; process crime scenes to include photographing, sketching and measuring the scene and items; and conducts routine searches and seizures. You will identify, collect and safeguard evidence; preserve trace evidence; complete lab requests and prepare evidence for transmittal to crime lab for forensic analysis. You will conduct victim and witness interviews; interrogate suspects, develop facts or resolution in the face of denials and prepare statement or results of interview documentation. Conduct surveillance and undercover operations.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen. Must be determined suitable for federal employment. Must participate in the direct deposit pay program. Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • This position is subject to shift work; subject to 24-hour recall and will maintain a 24-hour recall notification number and is required to respond per installation policy/SOP; subject to being interrupted from meal or other breaks while on duty.
  • You may be required to respond to off base circumstances as directed by the installation commander, in accordance with USMC and DOD policy.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. Must be able to read, write and speak English.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance.
  • You must carry firearms. You must pass all weapons qualifications prior to assigned duties and responsibilities and must pass all re-qualifications as required. This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment.
  • You must possess and maintain a valid state driver's license and be able to maintain a U.S. Government emergency vehicle operator's license (EVOC certification).
  • This is a Department of Navy drug testing designated position. Required to undergo pre-employment urinalysis requirements and sustainment drug testing.
  • You must pass a sanctioned physical agility test and medical evaluation and pass periodic re-tests as required.
  • This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg Amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor or felony crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
  • You must be able to obtain and maintain a Top Secret security clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) eligibility as determined by a Single Scope Background Investigation.
  • This is a mission essential position. You must maintain program height and weight appearance standards.
  • Overtime is required.
  • As a first responder to chemical/biological attacks, must be able to train and wear personal protective equipment to include mask, suit, boots and gloves.
  • Failure to meet conditions of employment may result in disciplinary action or termination.
  • Must meet medical standards satisfactory for Police Officers in DOD 6055.05M and NMCPHC-TM-OM6260.
  • Incumbent must satisfactorily pass the Police Applicant Suitability Review (PASR) investigation.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing duties that involve planning, conducting, or managing investigations related to alleged or suspected criminal violations of Federal laws; recognizing, developing, and presenting evidence to reconstruct events, sequences, time elements, relationships, responsibilities, legal liabilities, and conflicts of interest; conducting investigations in a manner meeting legal and procedural requirements; and providing advice and assistance both in and out of court to the U.S. Attorney's Office during investigations and prosecutions.
