About the Position: This position is located with the Directorate of Plans, Training, Mobilization & Security - Range Branch, Operations, Fort Campbell, KY. Fort Campbell lies on the Kentucky/Tennessee border between Hopkinsville, KY & Clarksville, TN about 45 miles NW of Nashville.
Duties
Perform duties as an Engineering Equipment Operator on a variety of equipment such as bulldozers, front end loaders pickup trucks, brush mowers, front-end loader and knuckle boom loader.
Operate a variety of construction/engineering and maintenance equipment to maintain facilities such as roads, fields, trails, range towers, support to buildings, maneuver areas, training areas, fire breaks, and administrative complexes.
Operate other types of equipment for which qualified and licensed other than those listed.
Perform as a tractor vehicle operator of conventional field-type tractors.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This is a drug testing designated position; required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- A pre-employment physical is required; and, additional follow-up physical exams are required every two (2) years.
- Requires the incumbent to observe established safe working procedures; and, wear appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a forklift certification/license IAW current DoD and OSHA standards and guidelines.
- Required to attain and maintain a level 1a Erosion and Sedimentation Control Certification within 12 months of employment.
- Required to successfully pass S-130 (Firefighter Training), S-190 (Wildland Fire Behavior), and S212 (Wildland and Firefighter Chainsaw) within 12 months of employment.
- Designated inclement weather essential, incumbent may be required to perform duties exposed to extreme weather.
- May be required to work nonstandard duty hours (e.g., shifts, weekends, holidays, overtime-both scheduled and unscheduled, and, is subject to recall 24 hours a day, seven days a week in case of emergency.
- Required to have or be able to obtain and maintain a valid government Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) within 6 months of employment with no manual transmission restrictions.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Engineering Equipment Operator without more than normal supervision. Operate a dump truck to haul dirt and other materials over paved and dirt roads; perform as a motor vehicle operator using trucks capable of carrying 2-1/2 to 20 ton loads, with a gross vehicle weight of 70,000 pounds, such as pick-ups, flat-beds and/or dump trucks; and operate fork lift and/or skid loader or tractor with forks to move supplies and equipment. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

Physical Effort: Heavy physical effort is used by the operator in constantly reaching, bending, turning, and moving hands, arms, feet, and legs. Frequent adjustment is required often under adverse operating conditions. Considerable strain caused by the constant vibration of the equipment. Frequently lifts, carries and sets up tools, equipment and parts that weigh up to 80 pounds. Is assisted when carrying heavier equipment for long distances.
Working Conditions: Operator is exposed to all types of weather conditions while loading or unloading equipment or delivering equipment to job site. Operator is subject to smoke, noise, dust, and fumes from motor and exhaust and continuous jerks and jolts. During suppression work, operator is subjected to hazardous conditions. Occasionally works within surface danger zones on firing ranges, such as impact areas, and this work may involve exposure to high explosive ammunition. Also works in prescribe burning and suppression operations to include working on the fire line. When work is performed in accordance with Environmental Differential Pay regulations, the employee will receive EDP for those periods of time. The incumbent is required to wear personal protective equipment, in accordance with established SOP's.
