Duties
Serves as the Assistant Director of Nursing at a Federal Medical Center (FMC) or a designated Long-Term Care Facility for the Federal Bureau of Prisons (BOP). Responsible for providing guidance and direction in nursing technical expertise for the staff nurses in the organization and administration of the nursing units. Responsible to the Director of Nursing for overseeing the nursing care given to patients in the Inpatient, Behavioral Health, Long-Term-Care, and Ambulatory Care units, in cooperation with the Nursing Supervisors as organizational components of the Nursing Department. Responsible for maintaining documentation for all personnel actions, both affirmative, and adverse actions, and drafting statements regarding the Nursing Department position in these matters at the request of the Director of Nursing. Along with all other correctional institution employees, incumbent is charged with responsibility for maintaining security of the institution. The staff correctional responsibilities precede all others required by this position and are performed on a regular and recurring basis.

Qualifications
To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements: Basic Requirements: Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor’s degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained. Degree from Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates on Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools. AND Licensure: Applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States. Experience: At least one or more full years of professional nursing experience that is equivalent to the next lower grade level. Some examples of this qualifying experience are:
Experience ensuring nursing standards of patient care and standards of nursing practice are developed and consistent with professional standards.
Experience participating in the development of patient care programs, policies, and procedures that depict how patients' nursing care needs are assessed, evaluated and met.
Experience ensuring compliance with regulatory and accreditation agency requirements.
Experience supervising and reviewing a nursing plan and scope of care based on a systematic plan of care delivery.
