This position is located at Glen Canyon National Recreation Area in the Facility Management Division. Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately April to March, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

Performs maintenance and repair on all types of marine equipment. This includes installing, maintaining, and repairing machinery and equipment such as cargo handling machinery, forced draft blowers, anchor handling gear, and other equipment of similar complexity. Installs and repairs foundations for marine machinery; bolt down parts and accessories to foundations and connect steam lines, air hose couplings, fuel lines, lubrication systems, and other power source prior to operation. Complete assignments involving major systems or machinery of greater complexity by disassembling and assembling components and assemblies, locating and repairing or replacing defective parts and components. Performs gas and arc welding on all types of metals such as steel, stainless steel, etc. Perform welding which is within the guidelines for inland water use as set forth by the U.S. Coast Guard (SFLCS Specification 0740). Operates boats ranging in size from 14 ft to 60 ft which includes 36 ft push boats and up to 65 ft barges. Operates all boats to test and check operation and determine any problems, overhauls are completed to ensure that they are operating properly. This is a Career-Seasonal position and subject to release and recall procedures. A permanent career-seasonal position includes all the benefits of permanent employment but does not provide employment on a full year-round basis. As such, selectee will be in a non-pay/non-duty status for at least 2 weeks to 6 months per year based on project requirements or weather conditions. Selectee is guaranteed to work at least 6 months per year but not more than 50 weeks per year, with the work schedule to be determined upon appointment. The typical season is April to March, but can be variable during these months due to project requirements or weather conditions.

To qualify for this position, you must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job-related factors: Ability To Do The Work Of The Position Without More Than Normal Supervision (SCREEN OUT) Ability To Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprints reading) Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of materials Reliability and Dependability as a Marine Machinery Repairer Technical Practices (theoretical precise, artistic) Trouble shooting If your knowledge and ability in the SCREEN OUT factor above is not sufficient, you will receive no further consideration. In preparing your application, describe in detail the experience and training which you have had that specifically prepared you for this job and to perform the following duties: (1) Independently maintain, diagnose, and repair various sized boats, such as gasoline and diesel. (2) Operate boats ranging in size from 14 ft to 60 ft which includes 36 ft push boats and up to 65 ft barges. (3) Operate all boats to test and check operations and determine any problems, overhauls are completed to ensure that they are operating properly. (4) Provides support to the boat operators in the proper operation, maintenance checks, and safety factors of all boats as required. (5) Performs safe towing operations of disabled boats under various conditions. Experience should be clearly described and documented in your resume. Education

There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.
