Duties

Reviews special actuarial studies of employee benefit programs submitted by defense contractors. Plans, initiates, and conducts actuarial evaluation of contractor proposals for pensions, post-retirement benefits, and other deferred benefits, or insurance programs, (Continued in next bullet) (Continued) to assist and support the Admin Contract Officer in the development of Government negotiating positions Performs evaluative analysis of liabilities related to pension benefits, post-retirement life and health or other insurance risks and contingencies. Acts as senior consultant to others, actuaries and non-actuaries, concerning study approach, actuarial research techniques and cost methods. Responsible for providing specific policy guidance, interpretation, advice and procedures to field contract management staff and operating personnel dealing with insurance and pension issues. Provides succinct, coherent and defensible recommendations summarizing actuarial analyses and advice to Contracting Officers and other staff regarding insurance and pension issues.

Qualifications

To qualify for an Actuary, your resume and supporting documentation must must support A and B: A. Basic Requirement: A bachelor's degree that included courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science totaling at least 24 semester hours. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. OR Completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. AND Associateship in the Society of Actuaries or the Casualty Actuarial Society. OR Completion of a minimum of 24 semester hours of courses in actuarial science, mathematics, relevant statistics, business, finance, economics, insurance, or computer science at a four year college or university. This course work must have included a minimum of 12 semester hours of mathematics that included differential and integral calculus and one or more courses in mathematics for which these calculus courses were prerequisites. AND Being an Enrolled Actuary. B. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience that equipped you with the competencies to successfully perform the duties of the position and is directly in or related to this position. To qualify at the GS-13 level, applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level or equivalent under other pay systems in the Federal service, military, or private sector. Applicants must meet eligibility requirements including minimum qualifications, and any other regulatory requirements by the cut-off/closing date of the announcement. Creditable specialized experience includes: Applying mathematical programming, statistical analysis, financial economics, actuarial science, and business techniques to validate the reasonableness of costs associated with a contractor's insurance/pension plan

GRADUATE EDUCATION: One academic year of graduate education is considered to be the number of credits hours that your graduate school has determined to represent one academic year of full-time study. Such study may have been performed on a full-time or part-time basis. If you cannot obtain your graduate school's definition of one year of graduate study, 18 semester hours (or 27 quarter hours) should be considered as satisfying the requirement for one year of full-time graduate study.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show that the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
