The Amarillo VA Health Care System is seeking a Podiatrist (Psychiatry Section Chief) at the Lubbock Community Based Outpatient Clinic, Lubbock, Texas to serve as Manager of the clinic operations and supervise all Medication Prescribers within the Amarillo VA Behavioral Health Service.

Duties

The Psychiatrist (Section Chief) responsibilities include the following: Supervisory Responsibilities (40%) Functions as the supervisor for all Medication Prescribers and supervises the manager of the clinic operations at the Lubbock Community-Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) within Amarillo Veterans Health Care System (AMAVHCS) Behavioral Health Service (BH). As supervisory psychiatrist, the incumbent is responsible for optimal BH clinical operations including access, effective utilization of staff resources, Veteran satisfaction, staff satisfaction, resolution of Veteran and staff concerns and complaints, and the quality and safety of clinical care. Monitors all Lubbock medical providers' on-going and initial performance evaluations and prepares reports for presentation to the Medical Executive Committee in a timely complete manner, as required by facility policy. Services as the psychiatric medical director of the Lubbock Primary Care Mental Health Integration (PCMHI) program in Lubbock. Provides leadership guidance, administrative as well as clinical, supervision and/or consultation as appropriate to assigned BH staff in the Lubbock CBOC. Provides administrative oversight and clinical consultation to other interdisciplinary team members and BH treatment teams for whom the incumbent is not the designated first line rating authority. Participates in and facilitates Behavioral Health Integrated Program (BHIP) interdisciplinary care team meetings. Provides clinical supervision to psychiatry residents, post-graduate fellows, medical students, and other trainees as appropriate, and acts as a liaison with sponsoring educational institutions. Ensures timely access to care of patients assigned to the Lubbock CBOC-based Behavioral Health programs, in accordance with local and national policies. Monitors compliance of team members with VA clinical reminders and performance measures. Effectively shapes provider practice patterns to improve standing on performance measures, promoting a culture of quality care excellence. Monitors and assures documentation of Lubbock BH CBOC clinical care is completed Clinical Responsibilities (60%) Provides psychiatric evaluations for Veteran population in their assigned clinical area with a vast array of behavioral health problems including personality, emotional adjustment, or mental illness and may have psychosocial issues such as homelessness, unemployment, and poor family support network. Provides a full range of therapeutic interventions including diagnostic assessment, medication evaluation and management (including Suboxone), suicide risk assessments, crisis intervention, and overall care of patients with psychiatric disorders. Practices evidence based pharmacological interventions as deemed necessary for the treatment of mental illness with its goal of reducing psychiatric symptoms, improving interpersonal functioning and overall mental health. Ensures practice of psychiatric medicine is consistent with TJC, CARF, HIPPA, VA policies and procedures, clinical practice guidelines, national statutes and regulations, medical record documentation, and mandatory continuing education. Participates effectively in team meetings and treatment planning conferences and collaborates with multidisciplinary team members to enhance care coordination efforts. Works effectively and in a collegial manner within a multidisciplinary team comprising of other mental health professionals including but not limited to psychologists, social workers, licensed professional mental health counselors, nurses, and peer support specialists. Orders diagnostic tests, consultations, discriminates between normal and abnormal findings and makes appropriate treatment decisions. Participates in the teaching and supervision of medical students, residents and other trainees as assigned. Psychiatric clinical care will be provided by face-to-face encounters or via using the VA Video Connect Modality. Performs other directly related duties as assigned. Work Schedule: Monday - Friday (8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.) VA offers a comprehensive total rewards package.

Qualifications

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. Degree of doctor of podiatric medicine, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed. Licensure or Registration. Applicants must possess a current, full, and unrestricted license to practice medicine or surgery in a State, Territory, or Commonwealth of the United States, or in the District of Columbia. Residency Training. Podiatrists must have completed residency training, or its equivalent, approved by the Secretary of Veterans Affairs in an accredited core specialty training program leading to eligibility for board certification. VA Podiatrists involved in academic training programs may be required to be board certified for faculty status. Approved residencies are:(1) Those approved by the accrediting bodies for graduate medical education, the Council on Podiatric Medical Education, in the list published for the year the residency was completed, or (2) Other residencies and training experiences, or their equivalents, which the local Professional Standards Board determines to have provided an applicant with appropriate professional training. Preferred Experience: Board Certified in Psychiatry. Experience in working with Veteran clinical population. PTSD, Dual Diagnoses, and clinical proficiencies in suicide risk assessment. Interdisciplinary Mental Health Care Coordination. References: VA Regulations, specifically VA Handbook 5005, Part II, Appendix G-4 Podiatrist Qualification Standard. This can be found in the local Human Resources Office Physical Requirements: Moderate lifting (15-44 pounds), light carrying (under 15 pounds), straight pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder, use of fingers, walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending, ability for rapid mental and muscular coordination simultaneously, near vision correctable (at 13" to 16" to jaeger 1 to 4), far vision correctable ( in one eye to 20/20 and to 20/40 in the other), hearing (aid permitted), emotional and mental stability, and clear speech.

Education

Applicants must possess a doctor of podiatric medicine degree, or an equivalent degree resulting from a course of education in podiatric medicine and surgery. The degree must have been obtained from an institution whose accreditation was in place for the year in which the course of study was completed.
