Duties

Responsible for making decisions that sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations. Coordinates land and resource planning and management with representatives of Federal, State, tribal, and local governments, the general public, public land users, and private landowners. Serves as consultant, coach, and supporter to facilitate problem solving and accomplishment of Field Office goals and programs. Creates strong mutual respect with and between teams and employees. In collaboration with employees, plans and schedules work by setting priorities, and develops schedules for completion of work. Monitors work to ensure team members complete their tasks effectively and efficiently. Resolves conflicting resource demands between teams; obtains necessary resources for teams to produce quality products in a timely manner. Assigns work based on priorities and capabilities of employees. Responsible for staffing positions with best-qualified individuals, and for training and development of personnel within their respective specialties as well as in other disciplines related to the Field Office and BLM-wide programs.

  • Supervisory Probationary Period: If you are selected for this position, you will be required to serve a one year supervisory/managerial probationary period if one has not previously been completed.

  • May require a one year probationary period.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-12 level that is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following examples: ability to lead team of subordinates while overseeing and tracking multiple concurrent complex projects. Ability to work with other agencies, Tribal governments, stakeholders, private landowners, and the public to manage a program of conservation and management of land and resource programs. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must meet all qualification requirements by the closing date of the announcement. Federal employees in the competitive service are also subject to the Time-In-Grade requirement in accordance with 5 CFR 300.604. If you are a current Federal employee in the General Schedule (GS) pay plan and applying for a promotion opportunity, you must have completed a minimum of 52 weeks at the next lower grade level. Physical Demands: Occasionally required to walk moderately long distances over rough terrain during normal fieldwork. Work Environment: When in the field, subject to injuries when walking in rough terrain and exposure to uncomfortable hot and cold temperatures. Incumbent will adhere to all safety rules and regulations as prescribed in manuals/supplements or by the designated Safety Officer.
