About the Position: This position is with the US Army Sustainment Command, 406th Army Field Support Brigade, Logistics Readiness Center, Transportation Division, Motor Transportation Branch, Fort Stewart, GA.
Duties
Operate 120-ton diesel-electric locomotive and perform locomotive engineer duties in movement of all freight railcars, spotting of cars, loading and unloading, and coupling.
Serves as International Standard Organization (ISO) Container Handler and Inspector.
Performs material handler duties as a member of the Departure/Arrival Airfield Control Group (DAACG).
Performs operator-level maintenance/repair on Material Handling Equipment (MHE) and attachments.
Requirements
- Position is subject to pre-employment and random drug testing.
- Pre-employment and annual physical examination required.
- Position is covered by the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R and/or DA Form 7412, Condition of Employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Must possess and maintain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class A.
- Must possess and maintain a Locomotive License.
- Position may require temporary duty (TDY), business travel, up to 10% of the time.
- Employee must be able to obtain and maintain forklift license within 6 months of employment.
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Locomotive Engineer (Materials Handler/Forklift Operator)~ without more than normal supervision. I am able to perform COMMON duties of a Locomotive Engineer, WG-5737-09 without more than normal supervision. These duties include operating locomotives to pull attached cars, mixed types and sizes of train cars and controlling speed and early anticipation of braking and accelerating requirements. Perform operator maintenance on engines, such as checking brakes, warning devices, reversing lever, sander, air, oil, electrical and temperature gages for proper operation. I am able to perform these duties under normal supervision. - Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: Performs work on hard surface in situations that require standing, stooping, bending, walking, and working in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Operator is subject to strain caused by vibrations of the equipment and from jerking and jolting motions while lifting and moving containers. Occasionally performs work on other than hard surface and lifts and carries parts, equipment, and items weighing up to 75 pounds. Strenuous effort may be required when connecting the tractor and trailer. Considerable eye, hand, and foot coordination is required to produce the desired movements while watching the load and its clearance with other objects.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Normally works outside, sometimes in inclement weather. Work areas may be dirty, noisy, and fumes present from vehicles. Exposedto dirt, dust, paint, and grease. Subject to cuts, bruises burns, shock, and strains. May be required to wear and/or use protective clothing and equipment in accordance with established health and safety regulations.
