The position is located at the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System, Engineering Service, Electric Shop and reports directly to the Maintenance and Operations Supervisor. The incumbent is responsible for maintenance, repair, installation and operation of lighting and power distribution systems.

Duties

Duties include but not limited to: Makes mechanical and electrical tests and visual inspection to determine causes of malfunctions or conditions which may cause breakdown or safety hazards. Utilizes manufacturer's blueprints and specifications to determine proper replacement of parts or other information to aid in troubleshooting, repair, or modification. Capable of disassembling, making repairs and reassembling all trade related device and/or equipment. Perform preventive maintenance and operating checks on electrical and mechanical devices such as PLC's, polyphase motors, polyphase generators, timers, pump motors, automatic "buss" transfer switches, lighting controllers, motor controllers, kitchen and laundry equipment, and other electrical switching devices. Performance of visual examinations, inspections, technical research, and operational test to determine the need for, and the performance of, installing, modifying, overhauling, troubleshooting, and repairing facility systems on all level of difficulty and responsibility requiring skill, knowledge, and experience predominately in the electrical trade to perform work on equipment, switch- gear, high voltage power lines above and below ground, and all other components that comprise station electrical systems. Ability to work on project objectives proposed by engineers, including planning and laying out the sequence of work from drawings or blueprints which may be incomplete regarding the specific wiring required in the unique application of equipment. Responsible for completed project requirements, timeliness, and standards of safety. Maintains motor control systems, variable voltage, variable frequency (VVVF) drives, integrated lighting systems and controls. Applies National Electric Code (NEC) and NFPA regulations to all maintenance and installation tasks. Work Schedule: Monday to Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Position Description Title/PD#: Electrician/PD10993A Physical Requirements: Work assignments require the use of light to moderate physical effort. The employee must frequently lift, carry, or otherwise handle items weighing up to 40 pounds. Occasionally items weighing more than 40 pounds must be handled. Frequent standing, walking, bending, crouching, reaching, stooping, or working on ladders in high places for extended periods of time is required. Working conditions: Work is usually performed inside a well-lighted, heated, and ventilated area. Work is also conducted in highly visible crowded areas where workers and patient safety must be exercised. Employee is required to wear uniform and protective clothing when exposed to patients and areas that are contaminated or designated as clean areas. Employees are subject to injuries, such as electrical shocks, cuts, bruises, abrasions, and burns. Incumbent is subject to 24-hour call.

Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
