Career-Seasonal appointments are permanent positions and include the same benefits as Career appointments, but do not provide work on a year-round basis. You will work from approximately early March to early February, and you will be in a non-pay status for the remainder of the year.

Duties

This position serves as Preservationist Supervisor in the Resource Management Division for Aztec Ruins National Monument & Chaco Culture National Historical Park. Duty station is Chaco Culture National Historical Park. The primary purpose of this position is to supervise trades and labor work on a regular, recurring, and substantially full-time and continuing basis on conventional/typical preservation projects for a variety of historic structures. As a Preservationist Supervisor you will: Provide technical and administrative supervision over subordinates performing various trades and labor occupations such as Masonry Worker, Masonry Helper, Laborers. Directly supervises and coordinates the work of journeyman level employees and other employees in the areas of historic preservation. Provide professional and technical support and knowledge on trades, and crafts such as masonry, carpentry, trails, grounds keeping, and documentation of field work. Position repairs, reconstructs, restores, or rehabilitates masonry structures by performing work such as stabilizing or constructing foundations, repainting walls, chimneys, fireplaces, and other building elements and stabilizing or restoring engineered structures such as bridges, stone retaining walls. Oversee the operations of various facility and maintenance functions such as preventative maintenance, trails, grounds, and historic preservation for historic and associated resources. Assignments involve a broad range of activities and highly specialized utility, trades, and craft. Carpentry/Woodworking: Reconstructs, restores, or rehabilitates wood structures by performing work on such elements as structural framing rafters, doors, windows, floors, staircases, trusses and beams, interior and exterior trim, and roofing where accuracy, spacing and fit are essential. About the Park: Chaco Culture NHP is located in the Four Corners area of New Mexico. The nearest towns are Bloomfield - 65 miles northwest, Farmington - 75 miles northwest, and Aztec - 70 miles northeast. The nearest grocery store is located at Crownpoint - 39 miles south. Schools, shopping, doctors, hospital, etc. are located in the towns of Bloomfield, Farmington, and Aztec. Closest elementary and high schools are 65 miles one way in Bloomfield. Roads from the south are all dirt for 19 miles. Precipitation for the area is minimal. Rain and snow are not common; and either can make the roads impassable. Aztec Ruins NM is located in the small town of Aztec, in San Juan County, New Mexico population about 8,500. All facilities are available in Aztec and Farmington, 15 miles distant.
