Duties

You will set up cutters or tools in machines, use dial indicators to ensure concentricity of work, select and adjust grinding wheels, determine feeds and speeds of wheel, and adjust machine attachments or components to correctly grind tools. You will set up, operate, and program the Walter CNC 5 axis Tool and Cutter grinder. You will use micrometers, radius gauges, clearance gauges, optical comparators, Rockwell harness testers, shadow graphs, indicators, profilometers, toolmaker's measuring microscope, etc. to check finished wood for compliance. You will operate machine tools such as CNC 5 Axis Walter tool grinder, carbide cutter grinders, monoset cutter and tool grinders, profile grinders, multi-spiral cutter grinders, etc. to complete assigned tasks.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have good eyesight, but correction with prescription is satisfactory.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Setting up cutters or tools in appropriate machine, using dial indicators to ensure concentricity of work, selecting and adjusting grinding wheels, determining feeds and speeds of wheel, and adjusting machine attachments or components to correctly grind tool to required shape, clearance, or configuration; 2) Setting up, operating and programming CNC Tool and Cutter grinder, using micrometers, radius gauges, clearance gauges, optical comparators, Rockwell hardness testers, etc. to check finished work for compliance; 3) Operating machine tools such as CNC 5 Axis Walter tool grinder, carbide cutter grinders, monoset cutter and tool grinders, profile grinders, multi-spiral cutter grinders, precision drill grinders, back and relief grinders, chip breaker grinders, universal grinders, de-magnetizers, lathes, drills, grinders, 0. D. and I. D., sanders, pedestal grinders, and thread grinders to complete assigned tasks; 4) Reading and understanding compound/complex sketches, specifications, blueprints, verbal orders, and engineering orders; and 5) Utilizing knowledge of metallurgy to determine type and speed of wheels.
