The Lead Housekeeping Aid position is located within Environmental Management Services (EMS) of Fargo, ND Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Medical Center. The position, generally aligned under to the Housekeeping Supervisor, is responsible for supporting and performing tasks (e.g., environment of care, textile distribution and training) associated with the Environmental Management Services (EMS) goals and objectives.

Duties

Duties for the position include but are not limited to: Leading Housekeeping Aids and others as assigned. Leading three (3) or more employees in performing their duties while performing the full range of housekeeping tasks required to maintain the Medical center and other facility units in a clean, organized and sanitary condition. Communicating instructions from the Supervisor to the employees and then validates the completion of the work assigned. Coordinating projects with nurses and other area supervisors to ensure work timely and successful completion. Setting the pace of each task, demonstrating methods and techniques and providing direction to assigned employees in their proper usage is cleaning supplies and equipment. Ensuring all tasks are complete and deadlines are met. Engaging with all employees to provide purpose, direction and motivation in accomplishing all tasks, while training the employee in proper procedures and techniques to meet or exceed desired outcomes of workload and safety. Reporting progress of employees to the Supervisor and making recommendations as necessary, on all matters to include the progress of work, any infractions of policies and procedures, and assures all safety compliance. Cleaning areas to include, but not limited to horizontal and vertical surfaces in: outpatient surgery, outpatient clinics, central sterile, clean rooms, patient areas, laboratory, pharmacy, offices, support and patient areas, isolation rooms, storage rooms, corridors, stairwells, toilet rooms, shower rooms, and all other Medical center areas as required. Using proper procedures in dust mopping, damp mopping, emptying waste receptacles, emptying and replacing medical waste receptacle, washing walls, cleaning light fixtures, and surfaces as necessary, refilling toilet tissue, paper towels and soap dispensers. Providing on-the-job training to all employees assigned. Identifying and recommending to the Supervisor employees that need remedial training based on observations made in the work site. Assisting the Housekeeping Supervisor to accomplish a vast array of service tasks and has the authority to accomplish day to day operational requirements. Working directly with EMS staff and ensuring they operates as an effective working unit by routinely rounding and interacting to create a culture of positive employee engagement with a strong focus on customer service. Conducting work assignment huddles and communicating general information to include safety, EEO and all information directed by upper management. Work Schedule: M-F 07:00am - 03:30pm. Bargaining Unit Position: Yes This occupation is currently approved for a Veterans Health Administration enterprise-wide Critical Skills Incentive through 09/07/2024. Candidates may be eligible for a lump sum CSI for a pro-rated amount if onboard prior to the CSI expiration date. Eligible candidates will be required to sign a service agreement agreeing to an obligated service period and failure to complete the obligated service period may result in a debt for the unearned portion of the CSI. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities.
