This position is with the Maintenance & Operations section of Facilities Management Service at VA Puget Sound Health Care System (VAPSHCS). The purpose of this position is to install, repair and adjust defective wiring, fixtures, switches, controls, and equipment. Performs limited installation and repair of complex electrical systems. Performs work from assigned work orders and under the direction of the electrical supervisor; may travel to other facilities within VAPSHCS.
Duties
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Follow schematic drawings to locate electrical wiring.
Determine type, size and measurements of wire, conduit, couplings, and fittings to use and type and placement of the electrical devices to be installed.
Use materials called for in work orders or obtains replacement parts by comparison with samples such as switches and wall outlet fixtures.
Remove, replace, tighten, splice, solder, and insulate defective wiring, control, equipment, and fixture.
Locate broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wring, fixtures, controls and equipment through visual checks or through use of a small variety of test equipment such as test lamps, voltage testers, ammeters, and polarity testers.
Install and repair electrical systems incident to the construction or maintenance or family housing units, buildings, quarters, offices, or shops.
Perform limited assignments in the installation or repair of complex electrical systems.
Use hand tools and portable power tools such as screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, drills, soldering irons, and manual or power conduit benders and threaders
Use a limited and variety of test equipment such as meg-ohm meters, ammeters arid multi-meters.
You will use a computer to research and order materials needed to complete jobs.
Work Schedule: Monday - Friday; 7:00am - 3:30pm

Physical Requirements: This position required moderate lifting, 15-44 pounds; lifting under 15 pounds,; straight pulling; pulling hand over hand; pushing; reaching above shoulder; use of both hands and use of fingers; walking, standing, kneeling, repeated bending for 2+ hours; climbing for 4+ hours; ability to distinguish colors and varying shades of color.
