This position is being filled under the OPM Government-Wide Direct Hire Authority for Certain STEM Positions. The incumbent will serve as the regions' Natural Resources Specialist and is aligned under the Supervisory Environmental Protection Specialist.
This is not a remote position. The selectee will be required to be physically present at the Phoenix, AZ duty station.

As a Natural Resources Specialist you will:
Qualifications
BASIC REQUIREMENTS:
A. Bachelor's or higher degree in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position.
-OR-
B. A combination of education and experience that includes courses equivalent to a major in the biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, PLUS appropriate experience or additional education. The quality of the combination of education and experience must be sufficient to demonstrate possession of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to perform work in the occupation, and is comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of a full 4-year course of study with a major in the appropriate field.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: One year of experience at the next lower grade level (GS-11) with:
Experience in conducting environmental/biological analyses; working with the US Fish and Wildlife in fulfilling Section 7 of the Endangered Species Act and other related natural resources protection legislation.
Experience in the identification of impacts on plant and wildlife resources and providing suggestions for avoidance and/or mitigation; and
Conducted portions of meetings and presentations with other scientists as the NEPA lead in other Federal, state, and local agencies, as well as the public.

Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
