This position is organizationally aligned to Social Work Service, with the VA Illiana Health Care System, Danville, IL. The Administrative Officer is responsible for providing administrative support to the Assistant Chief of Social Work Service-Medical and the Assistant Chief of Social Work Service-Mental Health by performing clerical and administrative duties.
Duties
Performs support services to all specialty clinics within the Medical Center and CBOCs
A resource for providing administrative leadership and coordination in the the development, implementation, evaluation, interpretation, revision and corrective action of of administrative functions delegated.
Knowledge of administrative concepts, principles and practices.
Serves as budget analyst by establishing and maintaining accounting and budgetary requirements.
Prepares budget requests.
Initiates personnel actions through Manager Self Service (MSS).
Provides technical support and guidance using a variety of spreadsheets and database software packages to obtain statistical data from published reports and manipulates data to produce tables and charts.
Work Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:30am - 4:00 pm / 2 positions available

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 03/04/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-9 position you must have served 52 weeks at the GS-7. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education as described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-7 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: knowledge of administrative practices and procedures; managing budget activities, previous accounting, book-keeping and budgeting processes; assisting with human resources functions such as recruitment, position classification, position management; handling procurement records and reconciliations; knowledge of personal computers as well as software packages including Microsoft Office, Excel, Power Point. Experience handling several projects at one time, with many interruptions in work flows and several deadlines and demands. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have successfully completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related. (Such education must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work and be directly related to the duties of this position). (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED) . OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of graduate education (in excess of the first year or 18 semester hours) and specialized experience as described above. (TRANSCRIPTS REQUIRED).

Physical Requirements: The work is primarily sedentary and is usually accomplished while the employee is comfortably seated a desk or table. Some physical demands such as standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 40 pounds) is required. Physical exertions including stretching, reaching, and pulling or pushing carts occurs when assisting with inventories or activities involving retrieving items from shelves and cabinets.
