Duties

Installs electrical components, completes all signal cable design and installation, connector wiring, and system adjustments. Completes component integrations, system timing, audio and video level balancing and color phase adjustments. Repairs and maintains electronic equipment for all NTC video and audio systems. Uses test equipment, schematics, signal generators and electronic scopes to maintain manufacturers required specifications. Provides in-housework involving production schedule coordination, building-wide design and development consultation to integrate and maintain television broadcast, livestream, hybrid meeting, and classroom presentation systems. Provides on-air technical engineering support for all live telecasts and multiple- camera programs. Monitors all system and sub-systems during broadcasts. Conducts system design and maintenance for broadcast equipment such as audio routing system, intercom systems, timing devices, microphones, and audio mixers. Repairs, provides preventative maintenance, and adjustments of all NTC classroom audio- visual presentation systems. Provides responsibility for computer display and video projection equipment adjustments and functionality of hearing-impaired audio system. Analyzes and modifies existing production facility equipment to ensure systems are on par with current technology. Removes obsolete equipment and researches, selects, and installs replacement devices which complement prevailing technology in the areas of television production, audio-visual display systems and national communications systems. Researches the web, attends conferences, and consults with engineering colleagues to find equipment vendors and perform cost comparisons. Oversees storage of equipment, purchase of supplies and/or equipment, and long-term need identification. Prepares requests for equipment, spare parts, and materials and verifies accuracy of equipment deliveries and maintains equipment inventory. Trouble shoot complex electronic devices, sub-systems, and other outside audio visual and communications equipment.

Qualifications

In order to be rated as qualified for this position, we must be able to determine that you meet the qualification requirements - please be sure to include this information in your resume. No assumptions will be made about your experience. You must possess one (1) full year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 level in the federal service. This experience is equivalent in difficulty and complexity as indicated by the following: Specialized experience at this level is defined as experience: independently designing, installing, and integrating complex (10 or more components) audio visual systems in studios, control rooms, and classrooms; terminating electronic wiring (including terminations for signal lines, video, audio, intercom, control, radio-frequency (RF), telephone, internet protocol (IP) networks (including multi-pin custom factory connectivity), supporting complex broadcasts as the senior Broadcast Systems Specialist (i.e., Engineer in Charge or EIC) for live and recorded multi-cam broadcast and streaming events: coordinating and supervising multiple contractors for complex installation and maintenance of audio visual, broadcast, and production facilities. Physical Demands: Typical electronics work is conducted in a workbench environment with hand tools. Equipment installation and integration work requires lifting equipment up to 50 pounds and the moving and assembly of electronic racks. Routine maintenance and wiring require work on ladders and scaffolding to access overhead equipment and signal cables. The incumbent may be required to work a tour of duty which deviates from the normal work week to meet production deadlines, the time frames of broadcast operations, and remote field work. Normal tour of duty work schedule options available to the incumbent are per standard NTC policy. Work Environment: Primarily work occurs within television studios, control rooms, classrooms, and other interior spaces. Signal cable installation and maintenance involves work in ceiling and subfloor plenum spaces to access cable trays, raceways and cable conduits. Infrequent remote production requires video work in typical BLM backcountry field conditions.
