Duties

The working title for this position is Observing Program Leader. As an Observing Program Leader, you will perform the following duties: Issue weather, water, and climate information, including accurate and timely warnings and forecasts, to the public and other customers served within the Weather Forecast Office (WFO) area of responsibility. Analyze and evaluate local synoptic and mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations available from multiple observation sources at the WFO while on an operational shift. Ensure the basic operating characteristics of National Weather Service (NWS) electronic and computer systems used in data acquisition, communications, information processing, and dissemination activities, including control procedures associated with the WSR-88D and NEXRAD systems. Provide appropriate advice, trainings, guidance, explanations, weather briefings and answers to questions as requested by the public, the media, and other interested customers of weather, water, and climate products and services.

This experience need not have been in the federal government. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized experience: To qualify at the GS-12 level: One full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Specialized experience MUST include all of the following: Using weather radar systems for data acquisition, information processing, or dissemination activities; Analyzing and monitoring mesoscale weather and hydrologic observations; Assessing weather situations and associated meteorological and hydrologic data to provide information, warnings and forecasts to the public and customers; and Assembling, monitoring, and maintaining weather instruments.
